Eijun takes the soda Haruichi offers him with a bright grin and turns to look at their crowded living room.
The after-party began a while ago, but the band members only got here just now, having needed to put their instruments away and change into less sweaty clothing after that night’s concert.
It looks like most of the usual crowd is here, and Eijun notices a few new people, grinning excitedly, the adrenalin from the stage still pumping through his veins. He spots Kuraomchi next to Ryousuke, Haruichi’s older brother, which means that someone else should be here t-
“Hey Yamamura~ I’ve been wondering, are you as loud in the bedroom as you are on stage?”
Eijun grits his teeth at the irritating voice, pivoting on his feet to point a finger at the cocky bastard leaning against the wall next to him, all handsome features and infuriating smirks,
“Miyuki Kazuya!” He practically explodes, “It’s Sawamura! Sa-wa-mu-ra! How do you keep getting it wrong, you asshole!?” Eijun seethes, glaring daggers at the man as he laughs.
Eijun has known him about five months now, ever since Kuramochi had dragged his high school acquaintance along to one of their band’s after-parties.
It has been five months of slow torture for one Sawamura Eijun, because Miyuki ‘cooler than you’ Kazuya took one look at him and decided to make his life a living hell.
Not that Miyuki is probably aware of this fact. No, the bastard just sees Eijun once or twice a month and spends part of the night teasing and flirting with him to rile him up. The asshole can’t even be bothered to get his name right!! But Eijun is a fool, and he’s been falling for Miyuki Kazuya and his tacky flirting and boyish grins, and can’t get him out of his mind.
“Sure sure,” Miyuki waves him off once he’s finished laughing, grinning at Eijun’s enraged face and stepping closer. Eijun stands his ground, even when they’re toe to toe.
It’s when Miyuki’s grin turns into a smirk -infuriating and annoying and definitely not incredibly handsome and distracting- and the man leans in, tilting his head just so, that Eijun caves and leans back, away from him, cheeks flushing as he keeps his glare up,
“What d’you want, asshole?” Eijun asks loudly, not caring if Miyuki could probably hear him if he whispered, even in the crowded space.
“What, I can’t even greet my cute host? How mean, Muramata~!” Miyuki grins and Eijun is about to throttle the bastard and tattoo his name on that pretty face of his when someone calls Miyuki’s name, prompting the both of them to look over, “Ah, looks like I’m in high demand again~ Well, see you, Bakamura!”
And with that, he’s gone. Out of Eijun’s personal space and sauntering away with the air of someone who’s very much aware of the way he looks.
Eijun seethes. He hates him. He hates Miyuki Kazuya and his gorgeous face and tacky flirting and distracting smirk.
But most of all, he hates that it works on him.
Originally, Eijun had thought he could write a song to get his own back; did so after their second meeting. That plan had backfired two months ago when he’d finally convinced his group-mates to add the song to the set-list, and Miyuki had been absolutely insufferable afterward, asking him who the song was about, and who he had to fight to win Eijun over from them, knowing full-well it was about him.
Haruichi, bless the demon in angel’s clothes, had encouraged him to be honest; after all, Eijun wears his heart on his sleeve, so why should he do differently with Miyuki?
Oh, the suffering that had induced. Eijun still can’t see a banana without blushing. Which is highly inconvenient considering he eats a lot of them.
No, there’s nothing that Eijun can do other than grit his teeth and glare and shout, because Miyuki Kazuya is insufferable and fun to be around even with the asshole exterior, and there’s nothing the singer can do to get the man out of his head.
He counts his blessings as Miyuki proceeds to ignore him for the rest of the evening -the winks he shoots at him every time their gazes meet do not count, thank you very much. Eijun refuses to acknowledge the flirting more than he has to, unable to respond in kind, tripping over his words whenever he tries. And all in all the after-party is fun and Eijun laughs and jokes and dances.
Until he decides he’s thirsty and goes to fetch himself another soda from the kitchen, and spots Haruichi leaning against the counter, looking obviously uncomfortable as another man almost boxes him in against it.
Before he even has time to do more than open his mouth to shout at the stranger, Miyuki is sidling up next to them and offering an icy smile to the man bothering Haruichi, putting a threatening hand on his shoulder.
Eijun watches the man flinch at the grip before he glares and backs away, turning to return to the party.
Oh no he doesn’t.
“Hey! Let me walk you to the door!” He cheers, smile stiff,
“What? No? I wasn’t leaving!” The man answers. Up close, Eijun notices just how much taller he is than him, but it’s not about to deter him as he smiles wider,
“Oh! Sure, I can take you to see onii-san then! He’ll show you out much better than I could!” And he turns to start looking for their drummer,
“Onii-san?” The man asks, bewildered, and Eijun shoots him his best winning smile over his shoulder,
“Yeah! Kominato Ryousuke! You know, Harucchi’s older brother!” The way the man chokes on air is satisfying, but not as much as the way he almost trips over himself as he starts towards the exit,
“Aha! Right! Well no- you know I’d best get going, you’re right. It’s getting late! See you!” And he’s practically running from the party and towards the front door.
Heh. Serves him right.
“You know,” Eijun jumps out of his skin as Haruichi appears next to him, “You and Miyuki-san are a lot more similar than I thought,” His best friend and bassist muses,
“Harucchi!” He yells, clutching at his heart, “Don’t scare me like that! And what do you mean we’re similar!? We’re nothing alike! Don’t compare me to that bastard!”
No, Eijun really doesn’t need another reason to fall for Miyuki Kazuya. It’s bad enough that he just witnessed him being an actually decent human being, never mind Haruichi -one of the most observant people he knows- comparing them.
“Mhm, if you say so,” The bassist answers mildly, looking out to the crowd, “He went out on the balcony, in case you’re looking for him,” He adds. And Eijun bristles,
“Who cares about Miyuki Kazuya!? More importantly, are you okay!?” He knows Haruichi is perfectly capable of defending himself, but he’s been on the receiving end of enough of Miyuki Kazuya’s flirting to know it’s a little rattling when someone invades your personal space. He can only imagine how much worse it must be when it’s unwanted.
“I’m fine Eijun-kun,” Haruichi reassures with a smile, “Don’t worry about me.”
But Eijun does worry, fusses over Haruichi until his older brother appears out of seemingly no where, and Eijun scarpers before he can get caught in another headlock by Kuramochi; he gets to be the man’s guinea pig for his wrestling moves enough as it is whenever he comes to watch their band practice thank you very much.
Next thing he knows he’s opening the balcony door and closing it behind him, letting out a long sigh and hoping no one thinks to check for him here as he slides down to sit against the wall next to the door,
“Oh? Fancy seeing you here~”
Eijun twitches and turns to glare at the origin of the voice, cheeks heating when he notices that he’s just sat himself right next to none other than Miyuki Kazuya, almost close enough to touch.
He briefly remembers Haruichi telling him this is where the man had gone, but had completely forgotten in his fussing…
“I live here Miyuki Kazuya! Of course you’ll see me here!” He yells, catching the way Miyuki frowns and he rubs at his eyes behind his glasses, the dim lighting hiding the rest of his features,
“Keep it down would you…? It’s just us out here,”
“I’m not going to use my inside voice when we’re outside!” Eijun retorts huffily, and Miyuki bursts into laughter, making the singer glare at him again, but he stays silent, unwilling to give the man any more ammunition to laugh at him.
Miyuki quiets and wipes his eyes, resting back against the wall and closing his eyes, a grin on his handsome face.
“You’re staring, Wawamura,” Miyuki whispers after a moment, and Eijun barely even reacts, even if his eyes narrow angrily at the name,
“…Thanks,” He answers instead, looking out to the view of the city through the railing, catching the way Miyuki shifts from the corner of his eye,
“No need to thank me for being a decent human being,” He answers slowly. Eijun looks down at his lap with a frown,
“Not everyone would have done what you did. Just accept that I’m trying to thank you, asshole…”
“Okay then,” Miyuki answers quietly, letting the silence fall between them. Eijun doesn’t add to it, and shifts to get more comfortable as he closes his eyes, actually enjoying the quiet.
Miyuki shifts as well, and Eijun feels warm where their thighs touch.
Neither of them moves, neither of them speaks.
Eijun almost thinks they’re making progress, and allows a little hope to swell in his heart.
FILL : Team Grandstand, T part 2/3
It turns out that night on the balcony had been an absolute fluke and Eijun almost thinks he had just dreamed it up, because the next time he sees Miyuki Kazuya he’s back to being an asshole who flirts with him the moment he steps through the door, and then proceeds to ignore him for the rest of the night.
Eijun spends that entire after-party in the kitchen with Furuya and Haruichi, alternating between quietly seething and yelling angrily about handsome assholes.
And then life goes back to normal. Eijun goes to work, practices with the band, plays at bars, celebrates Furuya’s 23rd birthday, and whenever they have a big gig on weekends, they have an after-party in his and Haruichi’s apartment. Miyuki turns up every now and then, annoys the hell out of Eijun, flirts with him until he’s a blushing mess and disappears.
Rinse and repeat.
It’s driving him mad. Eijun is going crazy for so many reasons. Be it the way Miyuki flirts with him, or how he refuses to get his name right, the way he’ll wink at him and waggle his eyebrows whenever their gazes meet from across the room after Miyuki has been dragged away by another group of people.
The thing that’s truly getting to him though is the hope. The hope that had settled that night on the balcony, and that grows every time Miyuki gets close, only to be crushed again once he laughs it off and leaves Eijun alone.
Poor Haruichi has been doing his best to help, and he’s incredibly thankful to his best friend and the patience he’s been showing, but Eijun is at his wits end, completely unable to get Miyuki Kazuya and his attitude out of his mind.
Just as he’s contemplating walking up to Miyuki Kazuya and kissing him senseless in some last ditch effort to get him to either acknowledge whatever is going on between them or finally shut Eijun down so he can get over him, his view of the party is obscured by a figure leaning against the counter next to him,
“Hey,” Comes an easy greeting, and Eijun blinks, looking up at the man now leaning next to him, “What’s the lead singer doing all alone?” He asks, offering Eijun a glass. He takes it and stares at it suspiciously,
“Does this have alcohol in it?”
“Of course! What’s a party without alcohol?” Eijun frowns and hands it back,
“Then no thank you, I don’t drink,” He expects the usual retort that he’s ‘no fun’, but instead the man takes the glass and shrugs,
“More for me then,” He winks, “I’m Nakamura Kaoru,” He adds with a smile, making Eijun grin in return,
“Sawamura Eijun! Pleased to meet you!” He answers loudly, earning an amused chuckle,
“Pleasure’s all mine, Eijun-kun. I didn’t believe Ryou-san when he talked about you, but seeing really is believing!” Nakamura tells him, and Eijun tilts his head as the man takes a sip of the alcoholic beverage he’d previously tried giving him,
“What d’you mean?” He asks, squinting slightly, too used to Miyuki and Kuramochi’s taunting to believe anything good could come from those words.
Nakamura smiles brightly at him, “He said you’re like the sun, too hot and too loud if you get too close.”
Eijun squints at him even harder, glaring angrily, but Nakamura only grins wider,
“He was right about the sun part. You’re loud and bright, it’s very refreshing,” Eijun blinks at him, frown alleviating, leaning back a little as Nakamura moves closer to smile directly at him.
He can’t help but compare it to when Miyuki leans in and invades his personal space, and it’s not the same; there’s no heat in his cheeks or fluttering of his heart.
But Nakamura is nice, and he’s not making fun of him. And it’s not like Miyuki is actually interested in him in the same way Eijun is. So he relaxes his shoulders and allows an easy grin to fall into place,
“Wahaha! This Sawamura Eijun is the bringer of sunshine after all!” He boasts, puffing his chest out, grinning when Nakamura laughs easily.
“Oi, how many times do I have to tell you to use your inside voice, Sawamura?” Miyuki asks, interrupting their conversation as he walks into the kitchen, plugging his ear with his pinky finger.
Eijun swivels and points at him, mouth open to yell out a retort, but Miyuki’s words register and he falls short, standing there, eyes wide.
“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?” Miyuki smirks at him, coming closer and leaning into him before locking gazes with Nakamura. Eijun stares at him, watching the teasing smile grow tense and cold, “I’m sorry if this idiot was bothering you, I’ll take it from here,”
Nakamura startles, “Oh! He was no bother, in fact, I’m the one bothering hi-”
“Then if you’re the one bothering him, could you leave? I’d like to talk to Eijun. Alone.” Miyuki interrupts Nakamura, smile turning positively frigid as he steps closer to Eijun, one arm curling around his shoulders.
Nakamura’s eyebrows shoot up and he raises his hands in surrender, careful not to spill his drink, and then he’s gone and Eijun is still staring dumbly at Miyuki, still trying to get over the fact that not only had Miyuki finally used his name properly but he’d even used his first name.
Next thing Eijun knows, Miyuki’s arm is leaving his shoulders, but he doesn’t have time to be disappointed at the loss of contact because a hand takes a tentative hold of his and pulls him out of the kitchen, all the way across the living room, and out onto the balcony.
The noise from the party is muted the moment the door closes behind them, and Miyuki releases Eijun’s hand like he’s been burned, moving to lean against the railing, looking out at the city.
Eijun stands there dumbly, watching the man, his heart picking up speed,
“Uh…” He finally says to break the silence, and startles when Miyuki whirls around and takes a step closer, instantly in Eijun’s space due to the small size of the balcony. He watches in confusion and a little awe as Miyuki’s composure falters, raking a hand through his hair and messing it up even more than it already is, swearing under his breath,
“Are you okay?” Miyuki asks at last.
What?
Eijun frowns, “Of course I’m okay! What’s up with you?” He answers, giving Miyuki a once over, remembering the last time they’d been on the balcony together and how-
Oh.
Oh, so this is what’s happening? Miyuki had thought it was a repeat of the Haruichi incident, and had come to help. Never mind the fact that Nakamura had been nothing but nice to him. Eijun can’t help the disappointment that floods him, the hope he hadn’t even realized growing the moment Miyuki turned up looking ready to fight being totally crushed as he connects the dots.
Miyuki doesn’t answer, only frowns, and Eijun has had enough, feeling tears well-up as he takes a step back, away from Miyuki, back hitting the wall behind him as he glares at the man who’s been plaguing his thoughts for the better part of eight months and yet insists on not remembering Eijun’s name.
“You know what!?” He shouts, “I’m done Miyuki Kazuya! Done! You hear me!?” Miyuki’s eyes snap to his, wide and surprised, “I’m sick of you playing around and then ignoring me! You think you’re so cool huh!? That you can just wind me up and get under my skin and become all I can think about and just leave me hanging!? Well I’ve had enough!” The tears are flowing now, but Eijun doesn’t bother wiping them away, “And Nakamura-san was being nice to me! So how about you just leave me alone so I can cry and try to get over you, since you’re obviously not interested!”
Eijun sniffs and leans heavily against the wall, glaring daggers at Miyuki who stands there frozen, eyes wide.
When it’s obvious that Miyuki isn’t going to leave him be, Eijun huffs and turns, intent on going to his room to cry in peace, but a hand grabs his shoulder and whirls him around, two strong arms wrapping around him and holding him in place,
“Wait…Let me… Give me a minute,” Eijun had been rearing up to yell and wiggle out of the grasp, but Miyuki’s voice is so small and scared that he immediately puts an end to that endeavour, standing still in the man’s arms, waiting for him to release him and say something.
A minute passes, and Miyuki hasn’t let go, so Eijun relaxes and lets himself enjoy the contact while it lasts,
“Ryou-san said I’d have to say something soon,” Miyuki says at last, “I thought I’d have a little more time though…”
Eijun frowns, “That doesn’t make any sense! Say what you mean, Miyuki Kazuya!” He tells him, and Miyuki chuckles, tightening his grip on Eijun’s shoulders, burying his face in his neck, and Eijun’s entire body feels like it’s on fire, cheeks bursting with heat as he tenses up. Before he has time to stammer out a question though, Miyuki speaks,
“I like you,” It’s out in a rush of air, as if Miyuki had had to force it out of himself, and Eijun is struggling to associate the Miyuki currently holding him with the one that flirts with him.
Then the words hit him and his world spins,
“What!? Wh-what!? You!? You like me!?” He wiggles; he needs to see Miyuki’s face. Needs to know if he’s messing with him. Miyuki grants him his wish, letting go of Eijun and stepping back to lean against the railing again, looking away from Eijun, who wishes the lighting was better so he could see his face clearly.
“Of course I do, you idiot. Why else do you think I’m always flirting with you?”
Eijun almost trips over himself as he flails his arms, “Wh- I thought that’s just ‘cause you think you’re so cool! And you’re always telling me it’s fun to tease me! And then you get me all riled up and leave! What else was I supposed to think!?”
Miyuki snorts and runs a hand through his hair before looking at Eijun at last, eyebrows pinched together,
“Sawamura, I’m as far from cool as I can get,” He states, crossing his arms, “I’m a baseball nerd who never leaves the house unless it’s to practice or play a game,”
“But you go to parties! You come here!” Eijun retorts,
“Yes. They’re the only ones I come to,”
“Why!?” What the heck is up with this man? Eijun doesn’t get him! Why would he just come to these parti-
“Because you’re here!” Miyuki exclaims, throwing his arms in the air, “Why else you idiot!?”
Eijun’s jaw drops, stunned into silence, and Miyuki huffs, messing his hair up yet again,
“Kuramochi dragged me to your concert last December and I couldn’t look away, okay?” He explains, Eijun thinks he can see his cheeks darken. That hope flutters in his chest, “And then he convinced me to come to the stupid after-party by telling me you’d be here, and I just can’t stop coming back.”
Woah. Eijun had not been expecting that,
“B-but? The- The flirting!? You kept leaving! And saying I’m funny!!”
“Because you are funny, idiot. And you never flirted back, so I’d give up. But every time I saw you I just couldn’t help myself…” Miyuki rubs the back of his neck in a manner that strikes Eijun as self-conscious, and he stares some more at the handsome asshole, slowly wrapping his head around the conversation and connecting it to past encounters,
“So… the winks?”
“Had the double benefit of getting you to blush and satisfying my own selfishness. It helped discourage anyone who looked too interested in you too.”
Eijun mulls those words over, thinks about how patient Miyuki is being with him right now. Can’t help but think of all the times he’s had people get impatient with him and tell him to hurry up.
“…Nakamura?” He asks at last, looking to the floor with a frown,
“I couldn’t help it. The moment I saw him lean into you I panicked,” Miyuki Kazuya? Panic? What? “I didn’t think anything through, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable or hurt your feelings, I just didn’t want him to sweep you off your feet before I’d had the chance to say anything.”
Eijun frowns even more, so hard his face scrunches up,
“But you did have the chance. I tried telling you how I feel months ago,” He gripes, watching Miyuki’s shoes appear in front of him as the man takes a step closer.
“Ah… Well, I thought you were joking at first, and then I realized you were serious, and panicked.”
“You do that a lot.”
“Yeah, I’m not good at opening up, or… relationships. Of any sort. Ryou-san likes to remind me of that.”
Eijun chuckles a little at that, and then there’s a finger under his chin, encouraging him to look up, so he does, staring up at Miyuki who’s a lot closer than he’d thought he was, and who’s face is a pretty red, though probably nowhere near as red as Eijun’s own face is.
“So let me get this straight,” He whispers, and Miyuki’s eyebrows raise. Eijun continues before the bastard can say anything about him being able to be quiet, “You came to the party because Kuramochi-san said I’d be here?”
“Yes.” The finger under his chin moves, hand cupping his cheek tentatively,
“And you don’t usually do that.”
“No.”
“But you keep coming to these parties.”
“Yes, we’ve established that.” The snark is unnecessary but not unexpected; it’s Miyuki Kazuya after all, and Eijun somehow likes him, terrible personality included.
“Because I’m here,”
“Again, we’ve established that. And before you ask, yes, it’s because I like you.”
“Why?” Eijun blurts,
“Why?”
“Yeah, you barely know me,” Eijun is aware he’s being a hypocrite, but he’s curious. He knows that Miyuki is an insufferable bastard who loves to toy with him, but he’s also patient and has a caring side that not many get to see. He can’t help but wonder what Miyuki has gleaned out of their limited interactions.
Miyuki leans in a little, and for once, Eijun stands his ground, heart rate picking up in a way it only does when he’s pushing himself too hard during his runs.
“I know enough to know that I want to know more,” Eijun’s head spins. That’s a lot of knowing. Miyuki pauses and smirks as he waits for that to sink in before continuing a moment later, “I know you’re loud, and you wear your heart on your sleeve. I know you have an incredible singing voice and can captivate an entire crowd with it. I know you’re handsome and that you light up when you smile. I know how easy it is to fluster you and how quickly you can brush things off. I know you care about your friends and hardly ever answer your messages. I know you don’t drink alcohol, and now I know I’ve upset you by running away from my own feelings.”
Eijun is stunned speechless once more, staring up at Miyuki wide eyed. He watches as the smirk turns into a soft smile that has his breath hitching.
Or maybe it’s from the way Miyuki leans in a little more, close enough that he could count the lashes behind his glasses if he tried hard enough,
“And I want to know more. I want to know if you sing in the shower, I want to know your favourite food and what side of the bed you like to sleep on. I want to know if you’ll write a love song about us and shout it from the rooftops at any given chance, or if you’d not say anything and just let people see for themselves by simply standing next to me. I want to know what it’s like waking up next to you, I want all this and more, and it terrifies me.”
Eijun takes a deep breath, lets the words wash over him, and locks gazes with Miyuki,
“Do you want to kiss me?”
Miyuki chuckles, and Eijun feels it against his cheek, “I’ve wanted to kiss you since you first called me an asshole.”
That was the first thing he’d ever said to him, wasn’t it? Eijun would blush, but he’s pretty sure all the blood in his body is already in his cheeks anyway,
“Then kiss me, you coward,” He challenges.
The flash of fire in Miyuki’s eyes is worth the embarrassment he’ll surely suffer from when the man teases him later.
If he thought that was worth it, it holds nothing to the lips against his, kissing him slowly.
FILL : Team Grandstand, T part 3/3
“You know, when you said I had to act soon, I really didn’t think it’d be that soon,” Miyuki is telling Ryousuke the next morning as the three of them sit in the living room eating cold pizza for breakfast, waiting for the rest of the apartment’s temporary occupants to wake, “It was almost too much of a coincidence…”
Eijun shudders from where he sits next to Miyuki on the floor, leaning casually against each other, catching the way Ryousuke smiles,
“You’re the one who jumped to conclusions when Kaoru started talking to Sawamura,” He states, biting into his slice of pizza. Eijun pauses as Miyuki tenses,
“Kaoru..?” Miyuki repeats slowly, and Ryousuke nods,
“Mhm, he’s a friend of mine, very nice. He’s been with his boyfriend for what- three years now?”
Eijun hears Miyuki’s defeated mutter of “It wasn’t a coincidence.” before he falls sideways onto him and buries his face in Eijun’s neck, muttering about conniving friends and being set up.
“What are you complaining about? It’s not like anything would have happened if you hadn’t been pining so desperately you panicked the second Sawamura smiled at someone else.”
Harsh. Eijun feels Miyuki flinch, but he doesn’t reply, and Eijun grins to himself at the obvious truth in Ryousuke’s statement.
“Cheer up Miyuki Kazuya!” He chirps, making the room’s inhabitants wince from the volume, “You got yourself an amazing boyfriend from it all! You should be thanking onii-san!”
“Why are you still using my full name, Bakamura? We’re dating now, aren’t we?”
Oh, Eijun has been waiting for this, “I’ll stop using your full name when you start using my actual name!”
“Fine, you got me there, Eijun. I promise to use your name more,” Miyuki offers, “Happy?”
Eijun smiles so wide his cheeks hurt, and he wiggles until Miyuki raises his head, disgruntled at being dislodged, but the frown dissipates the moment Eijun leans in to peck him on the lips,
“Very!” He chirps, “Thank you, Kazuya!”
Kazuya goes two shades darker, and Eijun preens.
Oh, how the tables have turned.
