In short, this joint dinner party turned double-date was not going as expected.

Youichi can’t say he’s exactly… surprised, even if the rest of the attendees are about as chaotic as they come. For starters, Furuya’s been sleeping on the couch since dinner ended - that guy hasn’t changed a bit since high school - and Youichi’s boyfriend and his brother are…

Well, Youichi can’t tell what they’re doing, exactly. To put it plainly - it looks like they’re having a staring contest. Only, he’s never seen quite so much intensity and animosity in someone’s eyes for such a trivial game - and he lived with Sawamura for two years, so that’s saying something - so frankly, it’s a bit… scary. Youichi might even intervene if their squabble carries on much longer.

Kominato Ryousuke, standing in their kitchen (he’s too close to the knives for Youichi’s comfort) hasn’t taken his eyes off of Haruichi since Furuya plopped onto the sofa without so much as an ‘excuse me.’ Ryousuke’s hardly ever been one for pleasantries, but he’s been a bit… on edge, about Furuya, since he and Haruichi started dating. It doesn’t help that Furuya is seemingly oblivious to all of Ryousuke’s pointed glares and malicious subliminal messaging.

Haruichi sure knew how to pick someone who’d really piss Ryousuke off, huh…

“Aniki,” Haruichi says tensely. It’s the first thing either of them have said all night, without Youichi’s urging.

Ryousuke studies him cautiously, still leering. “Haruichi.”

Youichi’s heart nearly stops. He needs to find all of the weapons in the house and throw them into the street. Expensive kitchen knives or not, he and Ryousuke’s house cannot turn into a crime scene. Knowing Ryousuke, they’d escape prison, but the amount of red tape involved… Youichi doesn’t even want to consider it.

“Maybe you guys should-”

“Let’s settle this like adults,” Ryousuke says - voice suddenly running cold.

It’s odd, Youichi thinks, how Ryousuke can speak to Haruichi like he’s a stranger from time to time, rather than a sibling. Icy, removed, detached. Part of Youichi wonders if Ryousuke would ever treat him like that, if he got on Ryousuke’s bad side…

Haruichi nods once. “Once and for all.”

Youichi doesn’t like the sound of that.

--

Two hours later, and the four of them are sprawled onto the couch together playing every Mario game Youichi’s ever owned.

“It’s the only way,” Ryousuke had explained.

The only way my ass, Youichi thinks. But he’s grateful for not having to clean up any messes
