My poor bby Asahi. I love the Karasuno Third Years so much.T.T

***

Asahi has gotten used to missing his two best friends. He misses the way Suga teases him, the way Daichi scolds him. He misses how Suga leans on him for comfort and how Daichi gets emotional during sunset.

Sometimes he even misses the way his heart aches when Daichi and Suga look at each other fondly, when they hold hands, when they kiss.

Still, he does not regret moving to Tokyo to pursue his dream career. Getting away from his painfully in love best friends may have been a factor, but they were not the only reason.
The fashion industry in Sendai is practically non-existent, so it had always been clear that he couldn't stay there forever.

It scared him at first, to leave everything he knew behind, but just this once, he wanted to chase this dream with all he had.

And now he's here: About to celebrate the launch of his first collection, with the two people he had so desperately tried to get away from.

The evening starts off on a happy note. When Asahi arrives, Suga practically crashes into him. It feels familiar, and it makes Asahi's heart race just as much as it did in high school.

Daichi's hug is a bit less crushing, but it's still tight. It doesn't feel familiar. In the past, their hugs had often been quick and one-armed or followed by a few claps on the back. Now, Daichi is holding onto Asahi like he doesn't believe he's here, like he doesn't want to let him go.

They exchange “it's so good to see you!”s and “how have you been?”s and they smile and laugh about everyday life stories.
It's fun, and Asahi's heart doesn't hurt. Not because he misses them, and not because he's jealous of what they have.

“So, you guys have been dating for about five years now, right?” Asahi asks and immediately shatters the lighthearted atmosphere.

Daichi and Suga look around and avoid his eyes. Suga shifts in his seat uncomfortably.

Panic starts rising in Asahi. “Wait, did you break up? Please tell me you didn't break up!” Even if he was always slightly jealous of the two of them, their relationship also brought him joy. They way Daichi and Suga loved each other felt warm, in a weird way it had made him feel safe to see them hold hands on their way home.
Because no matter what changed about his life, Daichi and Suga were constant. They were always together, they always loved each other and they were always Asahi's friends.

Daichi shakes his head in shock at Asahi's reaction. “Of course we didn't break up, calm down!”

“What is it then? Something is clearly wrong.” It's not like Asahi wants to discuss the love life the two people he's in love with have with each other, but he doesn't really have a choice. “You can tell me.”

Suga takes a deep breath. Asahi can see how Daichi grabs his hand for reassurance. “We've been talking. And we've realized, that something is missing in our relationship.”

“Are you going to get married?!”

“What? No! I mean, not yet”, Suga quickly answered.

Suga gave Daichi a look, that seemed to signal that he should take over.

“Well, you see...” Daichi seems to be having a hard time putting whatever he wants to say into words. “During high school, we felt complete.”

Huh, Asahi thinks. He has no idea what Daichi is talking about. He is already preparing for a pep talk about relationships changing with time and that everything will be fine as long as they still love each other, when Suga interrupts his thoughts.

“Because you were always with us.” Suga was not looking at him, he seemed nervous, his eyes somehow sad.

And it's true. Asahi was always with them. “Was I that good of a third wheel?” he asks, trying to lighten the mood even though the words hurt him.

Almost desperately, Suga grabs his hand, finally looking him in the eyes. “Asahi,” he says quietly, “please don't feel pressured by what I'm about to say. But at this point, it's unfair if we keep it from you any longer.”

Asahi is confused. Suga's eyes are starting to shine. Is he going to cry? What is even going on?

Daichi takes Asahi's other hand and looks at him, his eyes gentle and his face relaxed. “What Suga's trying to say is that you were never a third wheel to us. We have really strong feelings for you.”

Now it's apparently Asahi's turn to tear up.
He never dared to hope for this. The people most important to him want him, maybe even as much as he wants them.
Finally, he can have what he's been yearning for all those years.
Except Daichi and Suga live in Sendai, and he lives in Tokyo.

“Daichi, Suga...” Asahi's voice is shaking. “I've loved you for so long. I miss you so much, it was so hard to watch you guys be in love and think that I could never be part of that.”

Suga has calmed down enough to comfort him with his soft voice. “Is that the reason why you left?”

Asahi nods.
He notices that they're now all holding hands. It feels right.

“Maybe,” Daichi says, “it can be your reason to come back soon.”

“Yes. Soon.”

And Asahi smiles.

200.
Terushima poured milk on his cereals and started some toasts for his boyfriends. Eventually he got used to it, his new, and probably forever, life as an enforcer. They had a spacious comfy home and couldn’t care less about drinking too much or going rampage, beating the shit out of strangers who crossed the 100 line because they witnessed some bad things. Sorry, wrong place wrong time.

Back then, having a 3 digit number felt like a death sentence. The confused and displeased stares civilians would give Terushima when they realised he was an enforcer, a criminal, was still getting on his nerves. If it was not to keep his job and only joys in this world Terushima would shut them down all by himself.

Terushima eyed at his phone. 7:15 am. A single call from Ennoshita (non-urgent he guessed), the weather forecast announcing a cloudy day and a reminder to buy toothpaste. If Bokuto and Kuroo didn’t wake up in the next 5 minutes they’d be late. Between their stretching exercises, skin care routines and morning cuddles, they won’t be able to leave their quarters until 8am.

204.
Ennoshita called again. Terushima did hesitate to answer, the inspector never ringed him twice on mornings. The first one was to symbolically wake him up, though he never picked up in time.

“What’s up Enno-chan? You know I’m never awake enough to answer your first call.”

“I got news from Kenma. Miya Atsumu is on the radars again.”

Terushima tightened.

“A contact spot him flying off to the wasted lands.”

Each time they thought they got him, he managed to slip away.

226.
“The Southeast union?” He needed to know.

“Even further. He’s heading to the Midlands, looking for the Restoration Confederation we suppose.”

Kuroo was emerging, yawning all the way from this room to the toilets. Oh you’re up Yuu-chan.

“We go.”

“No.”

Bokuto soon followed and soaked two glasses of water. Morning Yuu-chan, he mumbled. Who is it? Bokuto’s depressed state kicked in, being left with no answer nor eye contact.

I go.”

“No.”

His two boyfriends were brushing their teeths. Kuroo was scolded again for leaving hair in the sink.

“This falls under the Minister of Foreign Affairs now,” reaffirmed Ennoshita. Their powerlessness was crushing. “The case is transferred.”

“Tch. I demand to be transferred.” claimed Terushima.

“Stop your nonsense.”

“I demand to collaborate on this case!”

“You were not part of the team initially on this case.”

Sure, if Ennoshita was laying facts like this Terushima couldn’t say a thing.

“Bokuto or Kuroo would fit the job better, but I won’t throw them in this shi- mess. You wouldn’t want that either.”

Of course. Terushima remembered clearly how it went last time these two were put under great stress. If they faced Miya Atsumu once more, they would easily break 300 Crime Coefficient. Terushima finished his breakfast and rushed to the office.

200.
All employees of the Bureau and visitors had to enter by the hall, presenting their badge or access cards to the terminals. There was no doubt there must be hidden ways Terushima didn’t know of, but for members of the Minister of Foreign Affairs on a formal visit, they should do like everyone else.

Somehow Ennoshita agreed to tell him when he could meet these people. “There’s no way he could convince them anyway” must be his reasoning. Even though Terushima could have come up with the same idea by himself, all he was doing was waiting in the hall for them to show up.

“Yuu-chan!!” called Bokuto as soon as he stepped in.

Kuroo hit his shoulder, “why did you left without us?!”
He handed him a lunch box. “You forgot this dumbass. Today is curry rice.”

“Thank you babe-chans,” Terushima got away with a genuine laughter. He couldn’t wait to eat Kuroo’s cuisine.

“Ushijima called us so we’ll see you later.”

“We’re going ahead this time!” completed Bokuto.

Terushima’s eyes followed his boyfriends pulling away. Both waved at him once they passed the terminals.

204.
A couple of minutes after, Terushima spotted them, two members of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He met them once when he first started to serve as an inspector because they took over a case Division 1 was working on. This scenario sounded oddly familiar.

The inspector must have noticed Terushima’s intense gaze as he stopped and waited before the enforcer was even near him. The taller, dark wavy-haired person accompanying him was staring back at Terushima, nearly with disdain.

“Sorry for interrupting you,” he bowed. “I am Terushima Yuuji, enforcer from Division 1 of the Public Safety Bureau,” he declared, displaying his badge.

The white haired man returned the gesture, followed by his colleague. Their plates presented them as Kita Shinsuke, tactical advisor of the Suppressing Action Department and Sakusa Kiyoomi, special investigator from the same unit.

“Nice to meet you Terushima-san.”

“I am sorry this could come up as rude but I would like to offer my help on the Miya case.”

Kita glimpsed at Sakusa and the decision was made.

“I am afraid I can’t allow that.”

217.
Terushima tightened, his mouth was uncomfortably dry.

“We know about your situation,” hammered Sakusa. “You can go beg all your superiors, the answer will be the same.”

“Kiyoomi-san.” Sakusa refrained from adding more.

“As they said,” continued Kita, “the Miya case is now under our care. Rest assured that justice will prevail. Now, we apologise we must go.”

Terushima bowed again, his head boiling of frustration. His failure was weighting more that Terushima felt he could have done better, spoke up, given more arguments than this morning with Ennoshita. But above all, he hated that, deep down, he didn’t actually want to leave Kuroo and Bokuto’s side, even to avenge them, to finally put their minds at peace. His resolution was hollow and the realisation hurt.

Terushima watched Kita and Sakusa walk away, letting go of his motives.

274.
Terushima’s raised hand was ready to strike, looking down on the inspector.

“Don’t you dare.”
Ennoshita’s look was frightening on his own.

“Chikara! Answer me!”

He exhaled and let it go. Terushima couldn’t calm down but he did his best to breathe.

When he returned to Division 1’s quarters, two desks were empty, not as in unoccupied because their owners were on a day off. The desks had been cleared. The cat and owl mugs were not there anymore, there were no dozen of coloured pens, no funny sticky notes. The jacket Kuroo always forgot on his chair was gone. The mascot plush he gave to Bokuto was gone.

“I said I’m sorry.”

“Fuck! It doesn’t matter! You promised they wouldn’t be sent away!”

“I did NOT promise that!” Ennoshita finally stood up to face his friend, knocking his chair away. “Chief Ushijima approved the co-operation and I’m sorry I couldn’t do anything about that.”

“No no no no no, fuck! You’re kidding me!”

The thought of Bokuto and Kuroo leaving him behind was something Terushima couldn’t process. Ok, maybe he could accept them being affected to this case, but when did they say goodbye? They didn’t! Terushima sat on the floor, trying to set a focal point on something, anything. An old coffee stain at Ennoshita’s feet would do.

“Did they tell you anything? For me.”

“Take care, don’t die. We’ll be back.” spoke softly Ennoshita.

200.
Take care.
Terushima didn’t want to go home. Anywhere he would lay his eyes on would remind him of their absence.

Don’t die.
Terushima refused to take a break. He was willing to do daily therapy sessions but his Crime Coefficient spikes kept pushing toward 300.

We’ll be back.
Ennoshita said he could move in the enforcer apartments if Terushima wanted him to. He didn’t decline. Sharing his life space with someone sounded better than dealing with his own parasite thoughts.

6:58 am. The heartwarming scent of fried eggs pushed Terushima to wake up.

“‘morning Terushima. I don’t know how salty you like them, I tend to eat mild.”

He muttered a thanks, leaning against the doorframe.

“Hurry up, we have a suspect to interrogate, they caught him this morning.”

Terushima nodded. He glanced at this phone: an alarm reminded him to buy toothpaste and the weather forecast announced a cloudy day with sunny spells.

Q: Which of the following signifies the turning point of Kageyama Tobio’s relationship with Kunimi Akira?

Select all the reasons that apply.

Part E

Option 01:

Kageyama, Kindaichi and Kunimi bought a pet hamster in their second year of middle school to celebrate a year of friendship with each other. It was a 6-week-old winter white, and they named him ‘Haku’, after snow because winter was Kunimi’s favourite season. The plan was for them to swap the responsibility every 2 weeks, but they went to each other’s houses every other day to hang out or practice anyway. So really, it was shared.

Four months in, Kageyama stopped taking up his turn. Kindaichi had to take up more rounds.

Option 04:

Seven months in, Kageyama comes across a packet of hamster food in one of his drawers. It’s starting to fur with mould.

Option 05:

There’s a drawer in his room that Kageyama’s filled with Kunimi’s things. Two borrowed pencils. Nine math worksheets — all past their deadlines. One of his favourite t-shirts. Three hand warmers and a scarf because even though winter is his favourite he always complains about the cold. A forgotten packet of candy Kageyama had gifted him not long after their first kiss. (It was a shy peck on the cheek, but the damage was done and Kageyama couldn’t think of anything or anyone else for a week after). Two mints and five arcade stumps.

Twenty-four parts of Kunimi and not enough to fill the emptiness he had left behind.

Option 07:

The first time Kageyama heard of the phrase ‘two’s company and three’s a crowd’, he draws arrows and Venn diagrams between him, Kindaichi and Kunimi.

Kindaichi and Kunimi both are company to him, and definitely to each other even before he came around, so Kageyama concludes that he, in fact, must have the smallest share of the circle between all three of them.

The diagram ends up lopsided and warped in a way that made Kageyama’s gut churn, but he didn’t know how to pinpoint his feelings. Eventually, after weeks of scrutinising the diagram that’s been mentally burnt into his brain, he gives up on grasping his emotions and decides to stow away the piece of scrap paper and his feelings altogether.

Option 10:

Before the start of high school, they coincidentally bumped into each other at a bus stop near Kitagawa Daiichi.

The hurt Kageyama felt from the matches of their last season together was still gaping and raw, and he would have just walked to his destination if not for making piercing eye-contact with Kunimi. Shoulders heavy, he resigned to crossing the distance between him and Kunimi, each step painstakingly drawn out. Kageyama sits down next to him. Tense and stifled, Kageyama was choked by the awkward air that surrounded him.

Kunimi, as his character usually is, seemed unphased, taking to a light conversation that bellied their history. Kageyama, barely sentient while his mind was fueled with the nightmare of being abandoned by the people you once held close, barely uttered, “No” to Kunimi’s question of whether he chose Aoba Jousai as his preferred high school.

The conversation might’ve carried on, but Kageyama’s mind was trapped in an endless loop.

Somewhere in the distance, as the bus rolled to a stop by the curb of the stand, Kageyama heard these words leave Kunimi’s mouth, “Sometimes, I still think we could have loved each other.”

“But I guess now it doesn’t matter.”

The loop didn’t seem to end.
