FAQ

Do you have questions about SportsFest? You've come to the right place! Here, you can find frequently asked questions about SF, including questions asked on our other social media sites throughout the event!

General

Who/What are Team Captains?
Every Competitive Team has a Team Captain. These are the teams' main point of contact for the mods, and they usually take a leadership role in organizing the team. They will also be in charge of posting (or alerting the mods that another team member will be posting) their Main Round entries. You do not need to have previous experience to be a Team Captain! If you’re passionate about your team, we encourage you take up the position!

If I’m on a competitive team, am I ONLY allowed to create content for the character/ship/group/animanga my team is based on?
Nope! For Bonus Rounds, you can prompt and create content for anything you want! That said, your Main Round entry should be focused on the character/ship/group/animanga your team picks.

Is [insert title here] a sports animanga?
Please check our Nominated Fandoms to see what series qualified for the event! If the show/manga you're thinking of isn't on the list, please check our Nomination Guidelines. We open fandom nominations twice during the event: once in April before the event starts and again during Half-Time. (Please see our schedule for exact dates.)

How do I win?
Competitive Teams receive points for participating in several ways: filling out a team worksheet, prompting/filling Bonus Rounds, submitting an Main Round entry, commenting on Main Round entries, and posting recs and remixes. At the end of the event, teams who reach certain point thresholds will be awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. Any number of teams can win! (When it becomes available, please see our Scoring Guidelines to learn more about earning points and medaling.)

Bonus Rounds

Can multiple people fill the same prompt?
Yes. Each person can only fill a prompt once (for points), but your teammates or other participants may fill the same prompt too! There is no limit to how many fills a prompt can receive.

Can teammates collaborate on a BR Fill?
Sure! But it will only count as one fill.

Is there a limit to how many prompts I can post?
Nope! If you’re on a competitive team, you’ll only get points for the first 10 prompts posted by your team. Every prompt posted after that will not earn your team points, but you're free to post them regardless! The only thing we ask is that you do not spam prompts. If you've posted 5 prompts in a row, please wait some time for other prompts to be posted before adding more.

In comment headers, do we have to put our specific team name?
As long as you use the header from the post and use the words "PROMPT:" or "FILL:" + the rating in subject line, the scorer should be able to find your prompt or fill! The way you write the team name is up to you. Our scorer looks at your usernames to figure out what team you're on, not the subject line.

I can’t edit my fill/prompt because someone commented on it.
Unfortunately this is a limitation with Dreamwidth. If it’s something minor (like missing author notes, etc.) you can reply to the fill with another comment. If it’s something crucial, the best way is to delete the post and create a new one.

Can I keep posting after the round closes?
New comments on rounds will be screened while it is being scored, but after scoring the round will be open indefinitely for new fills.

Main Rounds

Can an MR entry be two different mediums? Can a single team member create both art and fic for it?
Sure! Each team creates one MR entry, but how you break up the collaboration on that entry is completely up to you!

How should we count images for work length?
Please count all separate image files unless you're submitting everything as a spritesheet. The work length is there for people to know how image-heavy an entry is when choosing to view it. Work length should reflect participant experience when viewing the work.

How can I comment on MRs if I don’t know the animanga? Does this mean I can’t get the maximum points?
You don't need to comment on every entry to score Gold (after all, entries with adult content or triggering material cannot be read by all participants), but we encourage you to check out entries even if you're not familiar with the animanga they're based on! You never know, their work may convince you to start a new series!

Remix Round

Can I remix my/my teammate's fill?
You can't remix your own fills or your teammate's fills for points, but you're welcome to do it just for fun. However, you can remix fills that were created from your own prompts, or the prompts of your teammates!

Does X count as a remix?
Please check our Remix Guidelines (when we have them up) for acceptable remixes, and always check the remix permissions of the person whose fill you want to remix! If the type of remix you wish to do is not list in the guidelines, please contact a mod and ask the fill creator! Ultimately, it is up to the fill creator whether or not you can remix their work a certain way.

Questions we've Answered

We accept questions on multiple sites including Discord, Tumblr, and Twitter. While we do reply to those questions directly, it's also important to us to share those questions and answers with everyone in a convenient, easy to reference location! This is that location!

Am I obligated to take on a series if I nominate it ?
If you nominate a series you are not required to adopt the series ! Nominating a series allows anyone to be able to form teams around it and create fills for it during the event.

Where does the border between sfw and nsfw pass ?
Mentions or implications of sex and violence fall under the T-rating, and as such are allowed in sfw spaces.
On the other hand, graphic depictions of violence, explicit sex, and overtly sexual themes are regarded as M-E rated content and should be kept to nsfw spaces. Explicit nudity in art, even when non-sexual, should be kept to nsfw spaces due to their non-work appropriate nature.

If I create a team based on a group of characters, can my team create MR entries for different ships within those characters?
Your MR entry can focus on any combination of romantic/platonic relationships using the characters listed on your team roster as long as it doesn't overlap with an existing team ship! We only ask that all the characters on your roster have a significant presence in your entry.
