#Office FAQ

We answer a variety of your questions all the time in our Discord server! Here’s a running list of things that participants have asked so far.

General

How does the G-E Rating system work?

We use the Archive of Our Own rating system, which can be found here: https://archiveofourown.org/help/symbols-key.html

Is there an HTML guide that we can use?

Here’s a link to some of the HTML that can be used on Dreamwidth. I’ve also found that the Super Awesome Learning How to Embed Place story on AO3 is a lifesaver.

Bonus Rounds

When should a playlist fill go into Afterhours?

"Was it allowed on the radio" is generally a good metric. If the lyrics are explicitly sexual, then it belongs in Afterhours. If they just contain a lot of swear words, though, the main comm is fine. Also, please consider the content of any music video you link, if applicable!

Can IRL art count has fills?

Yes! Just take a good quality photo of it and post it as a fill!

Can multiple people fill the same prompt?

Yes. Each person can only fill a prompt once (for points), but your teammates or other participants may fill the same prompt too! There is no limit to how many fills a prompt can have.

Can teammates collaborate on a BR Fill?

Sure! But is will only count as one fill.

Is there a limit to how many prompts I can post?

Nope! If you’re on a competitive team, you’ll only get points for prompts equal to 5 times the number of team members (e.g a 4-member team will get points for 20 prompts, while an 8-person team would get points for 40 prompts), but you can keep posting prompts after you surpass this number (you just won’t get points for them).

In comment headers, do we have to put our specific team name?

As long as you use the header from the post and use the words "PROMPT:" or "FILL:" + the rating in subject line, the scorer should be able to find your prompt or fill! The way you write the team name is up to you. Our scorer looks at your usernames to figure out what team you're on, not the subject line.

I can’t edit my fill/prompt because someone commented on it.

Unfortunately this is a limitation with Dreamwidth. If it’s something minor (like missing author notes, etc.) you can reply to the fill with another comment. If it’s something critical, the best way is to delete the post and repost it again.

Can I keep posting after the round closes?

New comments on rounds will be screened while it is being scored, but after scoring the round will be open indefinitely for new fills.

Can a fill be in the same universe as someone else’s fill?

Yeah, that's totally fine! With permission, naturally.  Remix permissions should theoretically cover it but it's still polite to ask if you haven't already discussed it with the universe's creator. Linking to the inspiration fill for context in your author's notes would also be great!

How is Rec Round Scored?

Recs are scored based on the number of posts (with a minimum of one rec per post)! This is so that we can use the bonus round scorer to score the round, instead of manually keeping track of the number of recs.

Remix Round

Do translations count as remixes?

Yes, as long as you have permission and the original fill is linked!

How about continuations?

Yup!

Can I remix my/my teammates fill?

You can't remix your own teammate's fills for points (but you're welcome to do it just for fun). However, you can remix fills that were created from your own prompts, or the prompts of your teammates!

Are you allowed to create remixes with different characters?

Yes, you are allowed to create remixes with different characters! that said, keep in mind that this is a very low-key event, and please don't feel bad about stepping out of your comfort zone to write something you don't have as much experience with! Podfics are also a really great way to create a remix of a fill with characters you don’t have very much experience with!

Main Rounds

Are mangacaps/video clips okay to use?

All officially released material can be used in MRs, but it must be sourced and it (for the most part) won't count towards the Main Round Minimums (e.g. a mangacap won't count toward your 2 image minimum, but an edited AMV would. That being said, remember that "Work Length" should reflect the participants experience of the piece, while mods will still be checking that it meets the minimum requirements during mod check.)

Can an MR be two different mediums? Can a single team member to both art and fic for it?

Sure! Each team creates one MR entry, but how you break up the collaboration on that entry is completely up to you!

How should we count images for work length?

Please count all separate image files unless you're submitting everything as a spritesheet. Minimum dimensions are only for confirming if an entry meets the minimum requirements. If you already met it with a different metric, image size does not matter, and the work count is more so that people can know how image-heavy an entry is when choosing to view it. Work length should reflect participant experience when viewing the work.

How can a comment on MRs if I don’t know the animanga? Does this mean I can’t get the maximum points?

You aren't required to comment on every MR in order to get gold. It just helps you make up points you may have lost elsewhere. The expected number of comments for gold is 5/team member, so any additional ones act as bonus points!
