Bonus Round 3: Superlatives

Bonus Round 3: Superlatives

For this round, get ready to dive back into those high school yearbooks. Who’s the cutest couple? Who has the prettiest smile? Who’s most likely to go pro? Be creative and have fun!

This bonus round will close on August 3rd, 2018 11:59PM PT (23:59 PT). [COUNTDOWN]

This Round is CLOSED. It is perpetually open for new fills.

Rules

In the context of this round, superlatives are “titles” or “awards” a character/s might win based on their personality, appearance, future, etc. Superlatives are common in American high school yearbooks.

Please use one of the following formats for your prompt:

[SUPERLATIVE]: [Winner (Character/s, Object, Places, etc.)]

or

[SUPERLATIVE]: Filler’s Pick

Including the character who earns the superlative is optional. You can pick it yourself or allow the filler to choose. That said, remember that your header must ALWAYS include AT LEAST one fandom in the “fandom” section. Prompts that write “any” in the fandom section will not be counted for points.

Please be sure to fill out all lines of the header (even with “None” or “N/A,” so we can count your prompts/fill for points.) If you leave a line blank we don’t know if it was intentional or a mistake, and cannot count it for points.

All prompts must come from a nominated fandom.

You’re welcome to be as classic or creative as you like with your superlatives. Both typical and atypical superlatives are great for this round!

Superlatives don’t need to just apply to people! We encourage you to be as creative as you want to be!

Still confused about what a superlative is? Hopefully these examples will help!

A Few Examples:

MOST LIKELY TO SURVIVE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE: Abe Takaya

BEST PRANKSTER/S: Bokuto Koutarou

WORST COUPLE TO THIRD WHEEL WITH: Viktor / Yuuri

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER (CHESS CLUB): Filler’s Pick

BEST SIDEKICK: Pocari Sweat

ULTIMATE ANIMAL COMPANION: Filler’s Pick

TOP 5 CELEBRITY SECRETS: Filler’s Pick

If Prompting

Please use the following subject line for prompt:

Prompt: [Your Team]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nicknames or Official Names are both acceptable

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Prompts

EXPLICITLY NSFW PROMPTS must be posted to the after-hours comm. “Explicitly NSFW” means that the prompt includes outright sexual content (whether in a photograph, drawing, or in words), and prompts that in the additional requests are asking for explicit fills. Prompts are posted with the same HTML format, in the same manner as a SFW prompt, just under the designated post for that Bonus Round in the after-hours comm. See ‘Filling’ for the procedures for NSFW Fills.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

If Filling

Minimums

Required Work Minimums:

  • 400 words (prose)

  • 400px by 400px (art)

    • Traditional art is also allowed with a good quality photo/scan

  • 14 lines (poetry)

  • Playlists - 5 song minimum with artists. Link to either a video playlist, or each song separately. Be sure to warn for content in the music videos, and you may find linking to lyrics helpful. You may also write an explanation of why you chose each song.

  • Moodboards - 9 photo min, source all photos, and no fanart allowed (unless it's your own)

  • If you’d like to use a different medium, please contact the mods if you have any questions about minimum requirements.

There is no max work cap.

Format

FILL: [Your Team], [Rating]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nicknames and Official Names are both acceptable

  • Replace [Rating] with the rating of your fill (G-E).

  • Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Fills

All NSFW fills must be posted in the corresponding Bonus Round post in the After Hours community. If filling a prompt that has been posted on the after-hours comm, simply reply to that prompt. If filling a SFW prompt, let the prompter know by replying to the original prompt on the main comm with a link to your fill on the corresponding after-hours Bonus Round Post. Please do not use the Fill subject line or Fill header when cross-linking. This will cause the BR scorer to count your fill twice.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

Scoring

The scoring for bonus rounds depends on the number of people (n) on your team. You’re welcome to make as many prompts and fills as you like!

For prompts: 5 points per prompt, limited to 5 times the number of team members (5n)

For fills, where (n) = number of members on you team:

  • First 5n fills: 20 points each

  • Fills 5n to 10n: 10 points each

  • Fills 10n to 15n: 5 points each

  • All fills after 15n: 2 points each

Confused? Don’t worry; math is hard. Check out the Bonus Round Point Widget to help you figure out the point scale for your team.

We’ve changed the expected workload for Bonus Round Fills! The new recommended workload is 12 fills per member for Gold, 8 fills per member for Silver, and 4 fills per member for Bronze. The scoring post has been updated to reflect this (and other changes made to scoring! We’ll be releasing a Halftime update post in the near future with all the changes made thanks to your feedback!)

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Additional Information

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

Icie’s fantastic SportsFest Prompt/Fill database can also help you sort through prompts (and fills!)

If you’d like more information, you can look at the BR GUIDELINES.

You can also post your Fills to the Official AO3 Collection.

A Tip: We all want SportsFest to be a fun and safe environment. If you notice someone has made a mistake in their required tagging, or any other html or rules related aspect of their comment, do let them know, message them privately rather than replying - if you reply, they can’t edit the comment! If you aren’t comfortable letting the commenter know directly, contact a mod and we will make sure they update the required tags.

If you have any other concerns about Bonus Round Prompts/Fills, you can use this anonymous form to bring them to the mod team. You can submit Bonus Round concerns using this Google Form.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask a mod.

strangled tie noises

***

The lost and found in Izushi station is tucked away in a small corner, in between a dusty vending machine and a guard post that seems deserted. When Shinsuke steps in, a lamp above the doorway flickers on, blinding him for a moment with a warm hazy glow.

“Excuse me,” he calls. “I’m sorry to disturb. I left a tie on my train, and when I called they asked me to collect it from here…”

His voice trails off as the light clears, and he catches a glimpse of the boy behind the counter. He is dressed in an immaculately ironed shirt and pressed trousers, shoes that look like they have been shined just this morning.

Shinsuke looks down at his own shoes, and back up at an inquiring stare. He has never been at the receiving end of that stare, except in a mirror; it is different in real life.

“Is it this?” asks the boy, and pulls open a drawer to take out Shinsuke’s favourite tie, the silken maroon red one with the tie pin topped with a fox’s head.

“Yes,” says Shinsuke.

As he reaches for it, the boy stands up to hand it over. Their hands brush, and linger for longer than they need to. It is no accident, Shinsuke knows, for he does not do things by accident.

All the way from here, he can hear the faint drumming of the Shinkoro clock tower, signalling eight o’clock. It hasn’t been functional for years. The boy’s head turns along with his, and Shinsuke can see the soft sigh on his lips.

/

Today, the boy behind the counter is reading a book and there’s a red jacket round his shoulders that’s the colour of ripe cherries. A tantalising whiff of fresh tea hits Shinsuke’s nose as he enters. Earl Grey. The lemon slice is still on the saucer, and the boy glances up to nod a cordial welcome at Shinsuke.

“It’s you. Did you lose something again?”

My way, Shinsuke wants to say, and it’s funny, it’s a funny thought in his head because he would never lose his way. He has an unerring sense of direction and an excellent knowledge of local geography. But here he is, and he doesn’t know how he got here.

“Izushi doesn’t exist anymore,” is what he says instead.

The boy snaps his book closed and lays it down next to the teapot. He clasps his hands on the table, and Shinsuke looks at his thumbs. He’s always done that, pressing the ridges of his thumbs together when he’s thinking hard.

“We’re both here, though,” says the boy, after a while. “What do you think that means, Shinsuke?”

Shinsuke’s heard that when he smiles, it can be the sweetest or the most disconcerting thing. He has never understood that statement, but he thinks maybe he does now. It is a strange feeling in his chest that is not altogether unpleasant.

“I think it means I’ve missed my last train home,” he says.

“Granny always did say the deities have their plans,” says the boy, and pours a cup of tea. He slides it across the counter. Shinsuke takes it, and drinks.

/

The vending machine, Shinsuke discovers, does not work. He had not expected it to. At least it has the grace to return his 100 yen coins, even if they return to him strangely tarnished, as if they have been somewhere very far away and back again.

When he comes back, the boy is standing at an old radio with his back to Shinsuke. There is a maroon tie draped round his wrist. Shinsuke’s hand goes to his throat. He hadn’t realised he’d lost his tie again.

“I’m afraid we have to make do with tea again tonight,” he says.

The crackling static gives way to a Chopin nocturne, and the boy stops turning the dial, satisfied. He turns to glance over his shoulder at Shinsuke. “That suits me fine. I think it would suit you too.”

Shinsuke nods. He opens his mouth, and closes it again; he does not have anything to say, and he’s never needed words to see into someone’s head anyway. Their eyes meet, and then one of them is stepping closer and Shinsuke is not sure which one of them it is.

“It’s just me,” says the boy, his gaze piercing. “You don’t need some logical reason to explain how you feel.”

Shinsuke raises an eyebrow and laughs. “I don’t think that’s what Alan meant.”

The boy smiles. He loops the tie round Shinsuke’s collar and wraps the end of it round his hand, pulls lightly so Shinsuke’s leaning in and he can feel warm breath on his cheek.

“Alan was talking about happiness, wasn’t he?” he says, and as those deft fingers find their way up the tie, up to the impeccable knot and the hollow of his neck, Shinsuke can only close his eyes and murmur, yes.
