Bonus Round 2: Quotes
Bonus Round 2: Quotes
Sometimes you just have to keep with tradition! Keeping with the SASO roots that SportsFest was born from, Bonus Round 2 is all about quotes.
This bonus round will close on July 13th, 2018 11:59PM PT. [COUNTDOWN]
This Round is CLOSED, but is perpetually open for new FILLS.
Rules
The Rule of Thumb for this round is prominence - did a published author or poet write this line you’d like to quote? Great. Is it from a speech or a historical document? Cool. Did your friend say something funny on twitter the other day? Not so much.
Please DO NOT prompt screenshots of private conversations, Discord convos, or conversations between you and your friends. This can easily and unintentionally bring the prompts into inside joke territory, and can create an exclusionary environment.
Quotes from other SportsFest participants (or yourself) are NOT allowed in this round (for similar reasons to above, and the fact that you could just make anything a quote).
Please give credit to the original speaker of your quote whenever possible.
If prompting with a screenshot, it is polite to post a transcription of the text below the image for accessibility.
Please use your best judgement, and if you’re unsure if something qualifies - ask! The mods are here to help.
And to reiterate, Your prompt MUST include one or more specific nominated fandoms. Please do not prompt "Fandom: Any".
A Few Examples:
“Today is far from Childhood -
But up and down the hills
I held her hand the tighter -
Which shortened all the miles-
- Emily Dickinson, ‘One Sister Have I In Our House’
“Til this moment I never knew myself”
- Elizabeth Bennett, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice
“SHE DOESN’T EVEN GO HERE!
- Damian, Mean Girls
“It's a quarter past midnight
As we cut through the city”
- Quarter Past Midnight, Bastille
If Prompting

NSFW Prompts
EXPLICITLY NSFW PROMPTS must be posted to the after-hours comm. “Explicitly NSFW” means that the prompt includes outright sexual content (whether in a photograph, drawing, or in words), and prompts that in the additional requests are asking for explicit fills. Prompts are posted with the same HTML format, in the same manner as a SFW prompt, just under the designated post for that Bonus Round in the after-hours comm. See ‘Filling’ for the procedures for NSFW Fills.
Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

NSFW Fills
All NSFW fills must be posted in the corresponding Bonus Round post in the After Hours community. If filling a prompt that has been posted on the after-hours comm, simply reply to that prompt. If filling a SFW prompt, let the prompter know by replying to the original prompt on the main comm with a link to your fill on the corresponding after-hours Bonus Round Post. Please do not use the Fill subject line or Fill header when cross-linking. This will cause the BR scorer to count your fill twice.
Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.
Scoring
The scoring for bonus rounds depends on the number of people (n) on your team. You’re welcome to make as many prompts and fills as you like!
For prompts: 5 points per prompt, limited to 5 times the number of team members (5n)
For fills, where (n) = number of members on you team:
First 5n fills: 20 points each
Fills 5n to 10n: 10 points each
Fills 10n to 15n: 5 points each
All fills after 15n: 2 points each
Confused? Don’t worry; math is hard. Check out the Bonus Round Point Widget to help you figure out the point scale for your team.

The torch bobbled in Eijun’s hand as he barreled through the streets. A roar tore from his lungs, and the mob behind them shouted in reply: TO THE GATES!
Shinji kept up as best he could, but few people ever could hang with someone like Sawamura Eijun, the leader of the rebellion against their prefecture’s brutal and cruel daimyo. Crippled by poverty and starvation and grueling working conditions, the people started to fight back, and one of the loudest voices in that cry of freedom belonged to the man Shinji had promised to share his life with, for better or for worse.
This wasn't the kind of worst Shinji had in mind, but come hell or high water and most likely execution, he wasn't leaving Eijun’s side.
Two dozen men lofted a huge log, ramming it against the gates surrounding the daimyo’s keep. Blow after ringing blow filled the air, and Eijun’s fingers tightened around the grip of his sword as the wood splinters spewed from the point of contact.
The gate fell and the horde of attackers in homemade armor and makeshift weapons poured into the sea of huts surrounding the daimyo’s keep. Some of the villagers fought them and some of joined the fray. Regardless, the streets soon ran red with blood of soldiers and peasants alike.
Shinji followed Eijun closely, his bo staff fending off anyone trying to sneak up behind the group’s very loud and obvious leader. He wasn't the ardent and skilled warrior Eijun was by any means, but he had the tools to hold his own in battle.
The sounds of battle dwindled and died as a tall, heavily armored figure stalked out of the keep, a sword with a gem-encrusted pommel in one hand and a matching dagger in the other. Shinji didn’t need to stretch very far to guess the man was who they were there to find and depose.
“The daimyo,” Shinji muttered, and he swallowed hard when he saw Eijun’s fingers flex around the handle of his own sword.
A well of panic broiled in Shinji’s belly. The daimyo, Narumiya, and his bodyguard, a mountain of a man named Harada, was easily twice Eijun’s size. One blow from that sword would cut Eijun in two, and judging by the way Harada was coming straight toward them, he knew who he was looking for.
“He’ll kill you.” Shinji gripped Eijun’s upper arm tight. “Don’t take him on yourself. Please.”
Eijun shook his head and smiled challengingly. “You’re probably right, but he’ll still lose. Narumiya can’t hide forever, which is why he’s sending out his ace now.”
Shinji dropped his staff and raked his hand down his face. “Why does it have to be you?”
Turning back to his oncoming nemesis, Eijun declared, “Because it’s my destiny, Shinji. I’ve been told my whole life that Narumiya is unstoppable, that no one will ever be strong enough to challenge him. But you know what they say —” Eijun flipped his sword around in his hand and chortled. “— anything worth doing is because someone doesn’t want you do.”
“I don’t want you do,” Shinji stated simply, picking his staff back up. He stood shoulder to shoulder with Eijun and braced himself. “But you never did listen to me anyway, so I might as well keep you from getting your head chopped off by that — his sword is huge. This is a terrible idea.”
“Yep.” Eijun’s eyes glittered with challenge, and Shinji harrumphed.
Neither of them were going to come out of this alive, but if he were going to be hacked to bits, there was nobody he would rather stand next to than the gold-hearted idiot he married in spite of the war ravaging the land.
Raising his staff, Shinji said, “Let’s kill this guy.”
“Thought you’d never ask.”
