Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Sometimes you just have to keep with tradition! Keeping with the SASO roots that SportsFest was born from, Bonus Round 2 is all about quotes.

This bonus round will close on July 13th, 2018 11:59PM PT. [COUNTDOWN]

This Round is CLOSED, but is perpetually open for new FILLS.

Rules

The Rule of Thumb for this round is prominence - did a published author or poet write this line you’d like to quote? Great. Is it from a speech or a historical document? Cool. Did your friend say something funny on twitter the other day? Not so much.

Please DO NOT prompt screenshots of private conversations, Discord convos, or conversations between you and your friends. This can easily and unintentionally bring the prompts into inside joke territory, and can create an exclusionary environment.

Quotes from other SportsFest participants (or yourself) are NOT allowed in this round (for similar reasons to above, and the fact that you could just make anything a quote).

Please give credit to the original speaker of your quote whenever possible.

If prompting with a screenshot, it is polite to post a transcription of the text below the image for accessibility.

Please use your best judgement, and if you’re unsure if something qualifies - ask! The mods are here to help.

And to reiterate, Your prompt MUST include one or more specific nominated fandoms. Please do not prompt "Fandom: Any".

A Few Examples:

“Today is far from Childhood -
But up and down the hills
I held her hand the tighter -
Which shortened all the miles-
- Emily Dickinson, ‘One Sister Have I In Our House’

“Til this moment I never knew myself”
- Elizabeth Bennett, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

“SHE DOESN’T EVEN GO HERE!
- Damian, Mean Girls

“It's a quarter past midnight

As we cut through the city”
- Quarter Past Midnight, Bastille

If Prompting

Please use the following subject line for prompt:

Prompt: [Your Team]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Prompts

EXPLICITLY NSFW PROMPTS must be posted to the after-hours comm. “Explicitly NSFW” means that the prompt includes outright sexual content (whether in a photograph, drawing, or in words), and prompts that in the additional requests are asking for explicit fills. Prompts are posted with the same HTML format, in the same manner as a SFW prompt, just under the designated post for that Bonus Round in the after-hours comm. See ‘Filling’ for the procedures for NSFW Fills.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

If Filling

Minimums

Required Work Minimums:

  • 400 words (prose)

  • 400px by 400px (art)

  • 14 lines (poetry)

There is no max work cap.

Format

FILL: [Your Team], [Rating]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

  • Replace [Rating] with the rating of your fill (G-E).

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Fills

All NSFW fills must be posted in the corresponding Bonus Round post in the After Hours community. If filling a prompt that has been posted on the after-hours comm, simply reply to that prompt. If filling a SFW prompt, let the prompter know by replying to the original prompt on the main comm with a link to your fill on the corresponding after-hours Bonus Round Post. Please do not use the Fill subject line or Fill header when cross-linking. This will cause the BR scorer to count your fill twice.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

Scoring

The scoring for bonus rounds depends on the number of people (n) on your team. You’re welcome to make as many prompts and fills as you like!

For prompts: 5 points per prompt, limited to 5 times the number of team members (5n)

For fills, where (n) = number of members on you team:

  • First 5n fills: 20 points each

  • Fills 5n to 10n: 10 points each

  • Fills 10n to 15n: 5 points each

  • All fills after 15n: 2 points each

Confused? Don’t worry; math is hard. Check out the Bonus Round Point Widget to help you figure out the point scale for your team.

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Additional Information

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post). We’ll also have a prompt/fill database up and running soon that will help you filter through BR posts.

If you’d like more information, you can look at the [BR GUIDELINES]

You can also post your Fills to the Official AO3 Collection.

A Tip: We all want SportsFest to be a fun and safe environment. If you notice someone has made a mistake in their required tagging, or any other html or rules related aspect of their comment, do let them know, message them privately rather than replying - if you reply, they can’t edit the comment! If you aren’t comfortable letting the commenter know directly, contact a mod and we will make sure they update the required tags.

If you have any other concerns about Bonus Round Prompts/Fills, you can use this anonymous form to bring them to the mod team. You can submit Bonus Round concerns using this Google Form.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask a mod.

There were many times where Nijimura questions his choice in being the captain of Teikou’s basketball team. It’s not as if the position itself was a problem, no if it was just that then there would have been no issues. No, Nijimuras issues with the position had to do with his teammates. While they weren’t particularly rowdy or trouble to deal with (well most of them) they just tended to be weird.

Like yea he wasn’t expecting the most normal of kids to be walking through the door, these were first years who made the first string. Something that as of now was just unheard of. In retrospect, every time Nijimura recalls hearing about geniuses in any field it usually comes with warnings about how they had weird habits or social skills. He never really believed it, how could someone be a geniuses and be stupid right? Then walked in his own multicolored geniuses to prove him wrong.

The blue headed basketball addict was the most normal of them all, which all things considered was what Nijimura was expecting of basketball geniuses. Not a purple kid taller than him with an endless stomach for junk food or a green haired guy who tapes his fingers and carries around weird shit every day. His vice captain was certainly skilled and observant but he was also fucking terrifying too. Haizaki was less weird and more so just an ass and Nijimura can beat his ass if it came down it. But the oddest one had to be the newest one, another first year joining the first string with a weird ass light blue hair color.

It was really easy to forget that their newest first year was there with them. Kuroko had the least noticeable presence he’d ever seen and if you weren’t actively looking for the guy it was easy to overlook him. Hell, even when you were looking for him it was easy to overlook the boy even when he was standing right in front of him. The whole ‘using magic tricks to play basketball’ thing was the weirdest thing he’d heard off, but it produced results so he kept it to himself.

It wouldn’t a a problem as long as he kept it to himself, but if course somehow it got out that Kuroko new magic and then well. Nijimura found himself watching as Kuroko showed his top three players magic tricks. He’s no entirely sure Akashi was watching and Haizaki fucked off somewhere not even ten seconds after practice.

Kuroko was in the middle of teaching them how to do slight of hand tricks when Nijimura overheard just how strange some of his kouhai were.

"What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?" Kuroko asks pulling his wallet out of his pocket holding it up.

"Knife to the throat?" asked Midorima suggested and Nijimura was glad his lucky item of the day was a toy knife.

"Gun to the back." said Akashi, sounding calmer and more sure then Nijimura was expecting, answering he question if he was listening,

"Poison in his cup?" suggested a bored looking Aomine spinning a ball on his finger.

"You're all horrible," Nijimura cuts in before Kuroko says anything else. “You guys are like 12 and learning basic magic tricks, you all need to chill.” Nijimura rests his hand on to if Kuroko’s head rustling his hair. “Plus it’s like ten minutes after practice, ypu all need to go home.” He crossed his arms and the younger students start grumbling and began leaving the gym.

Sure the multi haired kids were a bunch of weirdos butthey were his weirdos at least.

knife to the throat.
This one is Megumi’s. You’d never have expected it of her, back when you first met. You watched her trace the word for human on her hand over and over again, and wondered if she even knew which end of the knife was the sharp one; now, you have seen the way she skins a hanging goosefish in a single smooth stroke. You will watch her over and over again in years to come, and it will never cease to fascinate you, how she makes it look like a fan dance, her braids spinning elegantly. More importantly, you have seen her play ping pong. You do not want to be on the other end of her blade. In her hands, it is not a weapon but a friend, and that’s what makes her all the more formidable. She taught you to ask for help when you need it. Your humanity is something you have learned to hold in your palm and put to your mouth, just like her.

gun to the back.
This is how you hunt, says Alice, snapping on her snorkel and hefting the spear gun in one hand. It’s funny seeing her like this. You’re used to seeing her in a white lab coat, but she tells you Ryou’s been teaching her a thing or two about fishing. It’s a game. Her smile glints in the sunlight like the tip of her spear. First, patience; then, bloodlust, that’s why it suits Ryou so well. You think patience isn’t the first word you’d have used to describe Alice, but then again, she can bide her time in surprising ways. She wrote you letters for so many years. You put on your mask and dive in after her. She is a pale streak in the dark water, an angel of death no shoal ever sees coming. With her leading the way, you feel like anything is possible.

poison in his cup.
Hisako teaches you about flowers. In the summer, you crouch at the roots of a sprawling tree and she fusses over you, makes sure you have a hat on, and she shows you the little herbs growing in the shade. She scrapes off chips of bark with a delicate touch and tells you about all the things it could do to a man’s insides if you put it in his tea. Now it is winter and she is tying the scarf snug at your throat, doing up the buttons of your winter coat. There are still flowers if you know where to look. She brushes aside a sprinkling of snow, and there you find the tiny white blooms of the sweet coltsfoot bunched up like a bouquet. Plants that flower in the winter have always made her smile. They’re survivors. Just like you, Erina-sama. You feel a blush rise to your face. She doesn’t see. She is busy harvesting, and it’s always been like this; you know the feeling of Hisako’s hands, warm on the frozen earth. Hisako teaches you about many things, but most of all, how to stay alive.
