Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Sometimes you just have to keep with tradition! Keeping with the SASO roots that SportsFest was born from, Bonus Round 2 is all about quotes.

This bonus round will close on July 13th, 2018 11:59PM PT. [COUNTDOWN]

This Round is CLOSED, but is perpetually open for new FILLS.

Rules

The Rule of Thumb for this round is prominence - did a published author or poet write this line you’d like to quote? Great. Is it from a speech or a historical document? Cool. Did your friend say something funny on twitter the other day? Not so much.

Please DO NOT prompt screenshots of private conversations, Discord convos, or conversations between you and your friends. This can easily and unintentionally bring the prompts into inside joke territory, and can create an exclusionary environment.

Quotes from other SportsFest participants (or yourself) are NOT allowed in this round (for similar reasons to above, and the fact that you could just make anything a quote).

Please give credit to the original speaker of your quote whenever possible.

If prompting with a screenshot, it is polite to post a transcription of the text below the image for accessibility.

Please use your best judgement, and if you’re unsure if something qualifies - ask! The mods are here to help.

And to reiterate, Your prompt MUST include one or more specific nominated fandoms. Please do not prompt "Fandom: Any".

A Few Examples:

“Today is far from Childhood -
But up and down the hills
I held her hand the tighter -
Which shortened all the miles-
- Emily Dickinson, ‘One Sister Have I In Our House’

“Til this moment I never knew myself”
- Elizabeth Bennett, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

“SHE DOESN’T EVEN GO HERE!
- Damian, Mean Girls

“It's a quarter past midnight

As we cut through the city”
- Quarter Past Midnight, Bastille

If Prompting

Please use the following subject line for prompt:

Prompt: [Your Team]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Prompts

EXPLICITLY NSFW PROMPTS must be posted to the after-hours comm. “Explicitly NSFW” means that the prompt includes outright sexual content (whether in a photograph, drawing, or in words), and prompts that in the additional requests are asking for explicit fills. Prompts are posted with the same HTML format, in the same manner as a SFW prompt, just under the designated post for that Bonus Round in the after-hours comm. See ‘Filling’ for the procedures for NSFW Fills.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

If Filling

Minimums

Required Work Minimums:

  • 400 words (prose)

  • 400px by 400px (art)

  • 14 lines (poetry)

There is no max work cap.

Format

FILL: [Your Team], [Rating]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

  • Replace [Rating] with the rating of your fill (G-E).

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Fills

All NSFW fills must be posted in the corresponding Bonus Round post in the After Hours community. If filling a prompt that has been posted on the after-hours comm, simply reply to that prompt. If filling a SFW prompt, let the prompter know by replying to the original prompt on the main comm with a link to your fill on the corresponding after-hours Bonus Round Post. Please do not use the Fill subject line or Fill header when cross-linking. This will cause the BR scorer to count your fill twice.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

Scoring

The scoring for bonus rounds depends on the number of people (n) on your team. You’re welcome to make as many prompts and fills as you like!

For prompts: 5 points per prompt, limited to 5 times the number of team members (5n)

For fills, where (n) = number of members on you team:

  • First 5n fills: 20 points each

  • Fills 5n to 10n: 10 points each

  • Fills 10n to 15n: 5 points each

  • All fills after 15n: 2 points each

Confused? Don’t worry; math is hard. Check out the Bonus Round Point Widget to help you figure out the point scale for your team.

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Additional Information

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post). We’ll also have a prompt/fill database up and running soon that will help you filter through BR posts.

If you’d like more information, you can look at the [BR GUIDELINES]

You can also post your Fills to the Official AO3 Collection.

A Tip: We all want SportsFest to be a fun and safe environment. If you notice someone has made a mistake in their required tagging, or any other html or rules related aspect of their comment, do let them know, message them privately rather than replying - if you reply, they can’t edit the comment! If you aren’t comfortable letting the commenter know directly, contact a mod and we will make sure they update the required tags.

If you have any other concerns about Bonus Round Prompts/Fills, you can use this anonymous form to bring them to the mod team. You can submit Bonus Round concerns using this Google Form.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask a mod.

It’s past 2 AM when a shadow falls over Eishi’s desk, and a canned drink materialises on top of his pile of papers. When he looks up, Isshiki’s standing there. Out of his Tootsuki blazer and tie, he cuts a surprisingly casual figure in an half-tucked shirt and trousers and there’s the lingering scent of smoke about him, cigarettes and charcoal alike, an izakaya smell that makes Eishi realise how thirsty he is.

“You’ve been out,” says Eishi.

Isshiki slides the can towards him. “And you’ve been here all night.”

“What is this?” Eishi asks, reaching for it.

“Canned coffee,” Isshiki says, making himself comfortable on the edge of the desk. He picks up the topmost form on a stack and studies it. “My, Tsukasa-senpai, does the paperwork never end?”

“Everyone wants to have shokugekis. No one knows how much documentation and protocol there is,” Eishi mutters. He doesn’t realise how tight he’s gripping his pencil until Isshiki leans over and plucks it from between his fingers.

“You’ll break that pencil. Or your wrist,” he says.

Eishi takes the can by the rim and turns it around. “What is... canned coffee?”

Isshiki twirls the pencil round in his hand. “Coffee that comes in a can. How convenient! What a wonder of modern food processing. Here, let me help you make a dent in this.”

He leans closer still and takes a clipboard from a pile by Eishi’s elbow, props the form up on one knee and starts marking it up, circling where fields haven’t been filled out right, or in some cases are plain illegible. The fine art of penmanship, as Eishi’s learned to his chagrin, isn’t a skill taught to all chefs, but Isshiki is characteristically unfazed. He makes quick work of the form and sets it aside, picking up the next one while humming to himself.

Eishi stares at the canned coffee.

“Where did you even buy this?” he asks.

“Downtown,” Isshiki says lightly. “You can find all sorts of things downtown, you know. There are some fascinating vending machines in back alleys.”

“It sounds dangerous,” Eishi murmurs.

“Maybe it is,” Isshiki says, gaze flicking upwards, warm and bright.

Eishi picks up the can. It’s still hot. He cracks it open, gives it a tentative sniff, and recoils, looking up at Isshiki with a frown.

“Are you sure this is safe for drinking, Isshiki?”

Isshiki sets down his clipboard and pencil. He laughs softly. “Aren’t you curious?”

“I’ve never had something like this before,” Eishi admits, even as he brings the can to his lips and takes a sip. The instant coffee goes down his throat, thick and dark; it’s every bit as foul as it smells but it feels like a shot straight to his gut, straight through his veins, and his eyes are open and he is awake. He is more awake than he has been in many nights.

Isshiki smiles. It is a smile tinged with the last of the smoke and the shadows, a secret smile that Eishi thinks would taste just like this coffee.

“Of course you haven’t,” he says. “That’s how I know just what you need.”
