Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Sometimes you just have to keep with tradition! Keeping with the SASO roots that SportsFest was born from, Bonus Round 2 is all about quotes.

This bonus round will close on July 13th, 2018 11:59PM PT. [COUNTDOWN]

This Round is CLOSED, but is perpetually open for new FILLS.

Rules

The Rule of Thumb for this round is prominence - did a published author or poet write this line you’d like to quote? Great. Is it from a speech or a historical document? Cool. Did your friend say something funny on twitter the other day? Not so much.

Please DO NOT prompt screenshots of private conversations, Discord convos, or conversations between you and your friends. This can easily and unintentionally bring the prompts into inside joke territory, and can create an exclusionary environment.

Quotes from other SportsFest participants (or yourself) are NOT allowed in this round (for similar reasons to above, and the fact that you could just make anything a quote).

Please give credit to the original speaker of your quote whenever possible.

If prompting with a screenshot, it is polite to post a transcription of the text below the image for accessibility.

Please use your best judgement, and if you’re unsure if something qualifies - ask! The mods are here to help.

And to reiterate, Your prompt MUST include one or more specific nominated fandoms. Please do not prompt "Fandom: Any".

A Few Examples:

“Today is far from Childhood -
But up and down the hills
I held her hand the tighter -
Which shortened all the miles-
- Emily Dickinson, ‘One Sister Have I In Our House’

“Til this moment I never knew myself”
- Elizabeth Bennett, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

“SHE DOESN’T EVEN GO HERE!
- Damian, Mean Girls

“It's a quarter past midnight

As we cut through the city”
- Quarter Past Midnight, Bastille

If Prompting

Please use the following subject line for prompt:

Prompt: [Your Team]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Prompts

EXPLICITLY NSFW PROMPTS must be posted to the after-hours comm. “Explicitly NSFW” means that the prompt includes outright sexual content (whether in a photograph, drawing, or in words), and prompts that in the additional requests are asking for explicit fills. Prompts are posted with the same HTML format, in the same manner as a SFW prompt, just under the designated post for that Bonus Round in the after-hours comm. See ‘Filling’ for the procedures for NSFW Fills.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

If Filling

Minimums

Required Work Minimums:

  • 400 words (prose)

  • 400px by 400px (art)

  • 14 lines (poetry)

There is no max work cap.

Format

FILL: [Your Team], [Rating]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

  • Replace [Rating] with the rating of your fill (G-E).

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Fills

All NSFW fills must be posted in the corresponding Bonus Round post in the After Hours community. If filling a prompt that has been posted on the after-hours comm, simply reply to that prompt. If filling a SFW prompt, let the prompter know by replying to the original prompt on the main comm with a link to your fill on the corresponding after-hours Bonus Round Post. Please do not use the Fill subject line or Fill header when cross-linking. This will cause the BR scorer to count your fill twice.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

Scoring

The scoring for bonus rounds depends on the number of people (n) on your team. You’re welcome to make as many prompts and fills as you like!

For prompts: 5 points per prompt, limited to 5 times the number of team members (5n)

For fills, where (n) = number of members on you team:

  • First 5n fills: 20 points each

  • Fills 5n to 10n: 10 points each

  • Fills 10n to 15n: 5 points each

  • All fills after 15n: 2 points each

Confused? Don’t worry; math is hard. Check out the Bonus Round Point Widget to help you figure out the point scale for your team.

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Additional Information

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post). We’ll also have a prompt/fill database up and running soon that will help you filter through BR posts.

If you’d like more information, you can look at the [BR GUIDELINES]

You can also post your Fills to the Official AO3 Collection.

A Tip: We all want SportsFest to be a fun and safe environment. If you notice someone has made a mistake in their required tagging, or any other html or rules related aspect of their comment, do let them know, message them privately rather than replying - if you reply, they can’t edit the comment! If you aren’t comfortable letting the commenter know directly, contact a mod and we will make sure they update the required tags.

If you have any other concerns about Bonus Round Prompts/Fills, you can use this anonymous form to bring them to the mod team. You can submit Bonus Round concerns using this Google Form.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask a mod.

It had been two days since Yakov banned Victor from training, and he was officially starting to go crazy.

At this point, he just didn’t know what to do with himself anymore. Yuuri was gone every day from 5AM to 7PM for training, and then as soon as he came back he had to take Makka for a walk which took nearly an hour, and then cook dinner, and then by that time he was too tired to do anything else.

Victor was so desperate to get up and do something at this point he might just… just.. Well he had no idea exactly what he would do. But he could say for certain that he didn’t want to be laying in bed any longer!

He wasn’t even sick! It was just a stupid little injury! He has had injuries before, why did one have to be such a big deal? They all doubted he could skate with a sprained ankle, but he would show them! When he was 13 he skated in a competition and won bronze with a sprained ankle, so he was sure he could do it again!

But of course, the doctor had given him strict orders not to put any weight on his ankle for 72 hours, and Yakov gave even stricter orders not to show up at the rink for a week to make sure his ankle healed properly.

”You’re not 15 anymore, Vitya!” Yakov shouted, “If you worsen your injury, you probably won’t ever be able to skate again!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. Honestly, Victor just couldn’t stand being cooped up in the apartment any longer. He wanted to skate again! He wanted to spend more time with Yuuri! He couldn’t even properly play with Makka in this sad state of existence!

This was absolutely unfair, and Victor was having none of it. He crossed his arms in front of him and humphed in defiance of an invisible foe, hoping that somehow his resistance would actually heal his ankle magically.

He was pretty lucky no one was there with him, or else they might have called him a child for the way he was acting. But what could he say? Being an adult about this situation was harder than he thought he would be.

Moments later, his trusty pal and best friend, Makka hopped up on the bed and settled down next to him, her head on his legs so he could pet her while she laid with him. “I’m glad you’re with me, Makkachin,” he told his dog fondly, smiling down at her, “I know I can always count on you to have my back.”

Makka simply looked up at him in acknowledgement of his statement, then laid her head back down and closed her eyes.

Just as Victor was about to reach over to his nightstand and grab the TV remote so he could turn the volume up and change the channel, he heard a key turning in the door, and the squeak of the hinges as it was pushed open. Before Victor could even get a word out, Makka was popping up from her spot and dashing out of the room to act as the welcoming party.

“Hello Makka!” Yuuri cooed, wrapping his arms around her fondly after she had placed her two front paws on his chest. “Were you a good girl today? Ah who am I kidding? You’re always a good girl!”

“Except when she leaves her toys out in the middle of the living room floor!” Victor shouted from the bedroom.

Yuuri smiled at the sound of Victor’s voice and gently nudged Makka off of him so he could go greet his husband. He gave the dog one last pat on the head before heading over to the bedroom and leaning against the doorframe. “And how’s my clumsy husband doing today?”

“Hey! It’s not my fault Makka left her squeaky toy right in my walking path!”

Laughing lightly, Yuuri walked over to the side of the bed Victor was on and sat down next to him. “Of course it’s not, Vitya. But it is your fault that you were taking a selfie instead of looking where you were going.”

Yuuuuuri! Stop being so mean!” Victor begged, puffing out his bottom lip to look extra sad.

“Get a hold of yourself, old man,” Yurio commanded, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, “You’re an adult, aren’t you?”

“He is sometimes,” Yuuri acknowledged, smirking at Victor.

Victor humphed again, but this time in protest to Yuuri and Yurio’s comments. After refusing to look at the two of them for a good minute, he gave in and turned his head to face Yurio. “When did you even get here, Yurio?”

“Katsudon brought me. I’m here to walk your stupid dog and bring you some food so you two can have some stupid time together.”

“You would do that for me!?” Victor gushed, a big smile on his face.

“Of course not!” Yurio snapped, “I’m doing it for free food!”

Both Yuuri and Victor knew that wasn’t entirely true. Yurio did care about the two of them in his own way, he would just never admit it outloud.

Victor wanted to give Yurio a hug, but he knew that was never going to happen, so instead he just settled for a simple thank you, which was promptly followed by Yurio brushing it off and walking out of the room, warning them not to be too gross while he was gone.

“Hey old man!” Yurio shouted right after opening the door, “Heal your lame injury soon. I’m sick and tired of Katsudon moping at the rink because you’re not around.”

Victor couldn’t help but to laugh. He looked up at Yuuri as soon as the door closed to see that his husband’s cheeks were flushed red and he was doing his best to avoid eye contact. ”Yuuuuri,” Victor cooed, reaching out to grab Yuuri’s hand, “You miss me when I’m not at the rink to coach you?”

Man, even after months of being married, Yuuri still got so flustered around Victor sometimes. Basically, he was like a teenager with this first crush. It was amazing what being completely in love could do to a person. “Of course, Vitya,” Yuuri responded sheepishly, “The rink isn’t the same without you.”

However tempted Victor was to repeat Yurio’s earlier statement about being an adult, he was far too smitten to do so and had no choice but to pull Yuuri down for a long, sweet kiss. By the time it ended, both of them were smiling like fools in love and staring into each other’s eyes like they contained the whole universe within them.

After they were finally able to tear their gaze away from one another, they decided to spend their evening cuddled up in bed together, watching a series on Netflix they started together a few weeks prior. Halfway through the second episode, Yurio returned to their apartment with Makka and a box of pizza, which he happily took a few slices of.

The three of them sat on the bed and ate together, then decided to go out in the living room and play a board game. Victor insisted he be carried by Yuuri rather than just using his crutches to get there, and Yurio threatened to hit him with his crutches if they got all mushy while they were playing the game. So all in all, it was a pretty wonderful evening, and a day that Victor would always look fondly upon, despite his injury.

OHHHHH this is so SWEEET!!!!! Oh man, i'm so happy you filled this! I love bratty Victor being totally fed up with not being able to do anything and the dog keeping him in bed and of course he tripped over nothing while taking a selfie XD And Yakov's exasperated lecture is completely in the right here too, haha.

And yurio's little cameo was super cute too, awww. These guys are the best. Thanks so much for writing this!

being an adult is hard and often includes long trips to the DMV. and DMVs suck a little less when you run into your cute classmate.

9:06 a.m.
“Number eighteen, please go to counter six,” the loudspeaker crackles to life. “Number eighteen to counter six.”

Yuuri fishes the flimsy paper ticket out of his wallet. 238, it reads. He slumps down in the plastic chair with a sigh, shoes squeaking against the concrete floor.

“What’s your number?”

“My – number?” Yuuri asks, as he turns to find Victor Nikiforov sitting next to him.

Victor Nikiforov, the most beautiful man in his Writing 102 class. And still, somehow, beautiful under the bright fluorescent lights of the Grand Blvd. DMV, his silver hair glowing and perfectly smooth. Under the gaze of Victor’s clear blue eyes, Yuuri feels a little like a bug trapped in a spiderweb. He shifts in his chair.

“Your ticket number – mine’s 238,” Victor clarifies.

“Oh, right,” Yuuri says. “I’m 236.”

The loudspeaker above them crackles to life. “Number nineteen to counter three, please. Nineteen to counter three.”

“Ah,” Victor says with another glance down at his own ticket. “I suppose we’ll be getting to know each other better.”

10:32 a.m.
“So why are you here?” Victor asks. It’s been almost an hour, and Victor seems to have thoroughly exhausted the games on his phone. For the past fifteen minutes, he’s been shifting in his plastic seat. Yuuri’s counted at least three separate times he’s gotten up to peruse the stacks of pamphlets by the door, including the

“Address change on my license,” Yuuri says. “My roommate and I just moved into a new place. What about you?”

“I was – ” Victor says. “Well, I was hoping to get a set of replacement license plates.”

“What did you do to the originals?”

“Oh, no, I didn’t do anything,” Victor says. “It’s just, well – ”

He pulls the plates from a canvas bag by his feet and puts one on Yuuri’s lap.

L0V D1K it reads. Yuuri squints, tilting his head before – oh. Oh. He slides the plate back onto Victor’s lap.

“And that wasn’t intentional?”

“Now you see why I had to make an appointment,” Victor says. “I couldn’t really drive around for the next few months announcing that I love, well – ” he slips the plates back into the bag. “You know what I mean. Even if I do.” Victor winks, and Yuuri feels his cheeks grow hot.

He’s not really sure what to say. “Being an adult is hard,” he eventually says.

“The DMV’s usually pretty terrible,” Victor agrees. “But it’s not too bad today.” Victor’s still looking at him, and Yuuri’s not entirely sure what to say to that.

“Number eighty-nine, please,” the loudspeaker announces. “Eighty-nine to counter three.”

1:41 p.m.
Three hours later, the loudspeaker announces number 230. It’s the first time Yuuri has wanted anything to slow down in a DMV.

In the last few hours, he’s learned that Victor’s here through an exchange program for sports journalism, and Victor seems to brighten when Yuuri tells him he’s a figure skater beginning to compete internationally.

Yuuri tells him about home and his family and his poodle puppy – “I have a poodle too,” Victor cuts in excitedly. “Here, these are pictures of her!”

Yuuri also learns that Victor gets bored easily, which he suspected with Victor’s tendency to switch between about ten different browser tabs during class, but still, it’s nice to know. It’s more than he knew yesterday, at any rate.

“Number two-thirty-six, please,” the loudspeaker says, and for once, it’s too soon. The fluorescent lights overhead are too bright in his eyes, and for a moment, he wonders if he imagined his number being called. “Two-thirty-six to counter six.”

“Maybe we’ll run into each other sometime,” Victor says with an easy smile, as if he also wishes they could stay like this a little longer. Yuuri can only try to stammer out an answer as he stands and checks his pockets for his phone and wallet.

“I hope so,” he manages, finally, and it’s met with an event bigger smile from Victor. “I’ll see you in class tomorrow?”

“I’ll save you a seat,” Victor promises. Yuuri isn’t entirely sure, but he swears he sees Victor wink at him as he walks away.
