Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Sometimes you just have to keep with tradition! Keeping with the SASO roots that SportsFest was born from, Bonus Round 2 is all about quotes.

This bonus round will close on July 13th, 2018 11:59PM PT. [COUNTDOWN]

This Round is CLOSED, but is perpetually open for new FILLS.

Rules

The Rule of Thumb for this round is prominence - did a published author or poet write this line you’d like to quote? Great. Is it from a speech or a historical document? Cool. Did your friend say something funny on twitter the other day? Not so much.

Please DO NOT prompt screenshots of private conversations, Discord convos, or conversations between you and your friends. This can easily and unintentionally bring the prompts into inside joke territory, and can create an exclusionary environment.

Quotes from other SportsFest participants (or yourself) are NOT allowed in this round (for similar reasons to above, and the fact that you could just make anything a quote).

Please give credit to the original speaker of your quote whenever possible.

If prompting with a screenshot, it is polite to post a transcription of the text below the image for accessibility.

Please use your best judgement, and if you’re unsure if something qualifies - ask! The mods are here to help.

And to reiterate, Your prompt MUST include one or more specific nominated fandoms. Please do not prompt "Fandom: Any".

A Few Examples:

“Today is far from Childhood -
But up and down the hills
I held her hand the tighter -
Which shortened all the miles-
- Emily Dickinson, ‘One Sister Have I In Our House’

“Til this moment I never knew myself”
- Elizabeth Bennett, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

“SHE DOESN’T EVEN GO HERE!
- Damian, Mean Girls

“It's a quarter past midnight

As we cut through the city”
- Quarter Past Midnight, Bastille

If Prompting

Please use the following subject line for prompt:

Prompt: [Your Team]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Prompts

EXPLICITLY NSFW PROMPTS must be posted to the after-hours comm. “Explicitly NSFW” means that the prompt includes outright sexual content (whether in a photograph, drawing, or in words), and prompts that in the additional requests are asking for explicit fills. Prompts are posted with the same HTML format, in the same manner as a SFW prompt, just under the designated post for that Bonus Round in the after-hours comm. See ‘Filling’ for the procedures for NSFW Fills.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

If Filling

Minimums

Required Work Minimums:

  • 400 words (prose)

  • 400px by 400px (art)

  • 14 lines (poetry)

There is no max work cap.

Format

FILL: [Your Team], [Rating]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

  • Replace [Rating] with the rating of your fill (G-E).

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Fills

All NSFW fills must be posted in the corresponding Bonus Round post in the After Hours community. If filling a prompt that has been posted on the after-hours comm, simply reply to that prompt. If filling a SFW prompt, let the prompter know by replying to the original prompt on the main comm with a link to your fill on the corresponding after-hours Bonus Round Post. Please do not use the Fill subject line or Fill header when cross-linking. This will cause the BR scorer to count your fill twice.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

Scoring

The scoring for bonus rounds depends on the number of people (n) on your team. You’re welcome to make as many prompts and fills as you like!

For prompts: 5 points per prompt, limited to 5 times the number of team members (5n)

For fills, where (n) = number of members on you team:

  • First 5n fills: 20 points each

  • Fills 5n to 10n: 10 points each

  • Fills 10n to 15n: 5 points each

  • All fills after 15n: 2 points each

Confused? Don’t worry; math is hard. Check out the Bonus Round Point Widget to help you figure out the point scale for your team.

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Additional Information

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post). We’ll also have a prompt/fill database up and running soon that will help you filter through BR posts.

If you’d like more information, you can look at the [BR GUIDELINES]

You can also post your Fills to the Official AO3 Collection.

A Tip: We all want SportsFest to be a fun and safe environment. If you notice someone has made a mistake in their required tagging, or any other html or rules related aspect of their comment, do let them know, message them privately rather than replying - if you reply, they can’t edit the comment! If you aren’t comfortable letting the commenter know directly, contact a mod and we will make sure they update the required tags.

If you have any other concerns about Bonus Round Prompts/Fills, you can use this anonymous form to bring them to the mod team. You can submit Bonus Round concerns using this Google Form.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask a mod.

Basically a prequel to this fill but definitely can be read on it's own. Set in same universe that I made up that's just a backdrop

***

Miyuki saw the sword coming, he caught it out of the corner of his eye while he was busy parrying another blade.  Men loyal to Mei, traitors all of them, were thick on the field and his contingent was being pushed back.  Without reinforcements, those under the banner of the Moon would be forced to retreat and he’d have to see the effect of failure in his would-be empress’ eyes.

Unfortunately, being occupied with one blade meant being unable to do anything about the second.  He had no choice but to leave his flank open and now way to avoid the strike to his open side.  If the soldier was good enough, he’d bury his blade so deep there was little hope of retrieval.

The old clichéd adage of seeing your life flash before your eyes turned out to be true.  It wasn’t uncommon for war, however, because a battlefield was a death trap and one was lucky to come out unscathed.  What surprised Miyuki, however, was that it wasn’t his whole life, just the most important part.

Youichi…”

“Kazuya!!” The shout carried across the field and before Miyuki knew it, there was a body between his and the oncoming blade.

Instead of sinking into his side, the blade cut into the side of the person between them, sliding, as if guided by the gods, beneath his armor without trouble.  The man grunted as he took the blow, then collapsed on the ground, pulling his attacker’s sword with him.

“Youichi!!” Miyuki screamed, giving his sword a harsh shove to end the deadlock before swinging it down to end his current opponent.

Red blanketed his vision and he lost his sense of time and space.  Nothing mattered but getting to Youichi.  Nothing matter but ending the one that would dare turn his sword against the one he loved.  Anger made him sloppy, but his enemy had disarmed himself in the strike and thus fell easily beneath Miyuki’s blade.

Miyuki immediately dropped to his knees, heedless to the mud and blood on the ground, and reached for his best friend and lover.  The sword, thankfully, stayed on the ground when he pulled him up and rolled him over, which hopefully meant that it hadn’t cut too deeply.  “Youichi…”

Kuramochi grimaced as he turned over, panting and tensing against the pain.  “Stop panicking, it’s not that bad,” he rasped, hands clenched.  “Barely a scratch.”

“Don’t be stupid,” Miyuki snapped, hand hovering over the wound that seemed to be bleeding at an alarming rate.  “Can you get up?  You need a healer.”

“Seriously Kaz, I’m not going to die from something so small.  My armor caught most of the blow.” Kuramochi replied, taking a deep breath and gathering his strength so he could push himself even further up.

It did not look that way to Miyuki, but it was really hard to tell, because Kuramochi’s kimono and haori were dark in color.  Either way, they couldn’t stay there, Kuramochi needed healing and he needed to regroup his troops.  His eyes scanned the immediate vicinity, noting the chaos and the increasing casualties.  Scowling, he caught sight of a soldier bearing the crest of the Crane, wading through the chaos on his horse.  “You, Crane!” He shouted, setting about helping Kuramochi to his feet.

The soldier immediately wheeled his horse and brought it beside the too much.  Miyuki pulled himself to his full height, wearing the mantle of heir to a royal house in a way he rarely did.  “Your horse.”

To the soldier’s credit, he didn’t even pause before swinging down from the saddle.  “My lord,” he bowed, glancing at the slumping Kuramochi.  “May I help you get him up?”

“Thank you,” Miyuki sighed, a little relieved.

Between the two of them, they got Kuramochi on the horse and stable enough to give Miyuki the opportunity to mount behind him.  With one hand on the reigns and one hand circling Kuramochi’s waist, Miyuki turned the horse.  “Fall back!” He called, lifting his voice over the chaos.  “Fall back to the forward camp!”

He didn’t stick around to see if they obeyed.  The Crane soldier would, at least, have heard him and spread the word.  It wasn’t the first time he’d had to call a temporary retreat.  As he galloped through the field towards camp, Kuramochi groaning in front of him, Miyuki had only one thought: saving the man he loved.
