Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Bonus Round 2: Quotes

Sometimes you just have to keep with tradition! Keeping with the SASO roots that SportsFest was born from, Bonus Round 2 is all about quotes.

This bonus round will close on July 13th, 2018 11:59PM PT. [COUNTDOWN]

This Round is CLOSED, but is perpetually open for new FILLS.

Rules

The Rule of Thumb for this round is prominence - did a published author or poet write this line you’d like to quote? Great. Is it from a speech or a historical document? Cool. Did your friend say something funny on twitter the other day? Not so much.

Please DO NOT prompt screenshots of private conversations, Discord convos, or conversations between you and your friends. This can easily and unintentionally bring the prompts into inside joke territory, and can create an exclusionary environment.

Quotes from other SportsFest participants (or yourself) are NOT allowed in this round (for similar reasons to above, and the fact that you could just make anything a quote).

Please give credit to the original speaker of your quote whenever possible.

If prompting with a screenshot, it is polite to post a transcription of the text below the image for accessibility.

Please use your best judgement, and if you’re unsure if something qualifies - ask! The mods are here to help.

And to reiterate, Your prompt MUST include one or more specific nominated fandoms. Please do not prompt "Fandom: Any".

A Few Examples:

“Today is far from Childhood -
But up and down the hills
I held her hand the tighter -
Which shortened all the miles-
- Emily Dickinson, ‘One Sister Have I In Our House’

“Til this moment I never knew myself”
- Elizabeth Bennett, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

“SHE DOESN’T EVEN GO HERE!
- Damian, Mean Girls

“It's a quarter past midnight

As we cut through the city”
- Quarter Past Midnight, Bastille

If Prompting

Please use the following subject line for prompt:

Prompt: [Your Team]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Prompts

EXPLICITLY NSFW PROMPTS must be posted to the after-hours comm. “Explicitly NSFW” means that the prompt includes outright sexual content (whether in a photograph, drawing, or in words), and prompts that in the additional requests are asking for explicit fills. Prompts are posted with the same HTML format, in the same manner as a SFW prompt, just under the designated post for that Bonus Round in the after-hours comm. See ‘Filling’ for the procedures for NSFW Fills.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

If Filling

Minimums

Required Work Minimums:

  • 400 words (prose)

  • 400px by 400px (art)

  • 14 lines (poetry)

There is no max work cap.

Format

FILL: [Your Team], [Rating]

  • Replace [Your Team] with the name of the team you belong to. Nickname or Official Name are both acceptable

  • Replace [Rating] with the rating of your fill (G-E).

Copy/Paste the following into the body of your comment. Delete all instructional text in parentheses.

NSFW Fills

All NSFW fills must be posted in the corresponding Bonus Round post in the After Hours community. If filling a prompt that has been posted on the after-hours comm, simply reply to that prompt. If filling a SFW prompt, let the prompter know by replying to the original prompt on the main comm with a link to your fill on the corresponding after-hours Bonus Round Post. Please do not use the Fill subject line or Fill header when cross-linking. This will cause the BR scorer to count your fill twice.

Once you have joined the Afterhours community, you can find the corresponding post HERE.

Scoring

The scoring for bonus rounds depends on the number of people (n) on your team. You’re welcome to make as many prompts and fills as you like!

For prompts: 5 points per prompt, limited to 5 times the number of team members (5n)

For fills, where (n) = number of members on you team:

  • First 5n fills: 20 points each

  • Fills 5n to 10n: 10 points each

  • Fills 10n to 15n: 5 points each

  • All fills after 15n: 2 points each

Confused? Don’t worry; math is hard. Check out the Bonus Round Point Widget to help you figure out the point scale for your team.

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Additional Information

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post). We’ll also have a prompt/fill database up and running soon that will help you filter through BR posts.

If you’d like more information, you can look at the [BR GUIDELINES]

You can also post your Fills to the Official AO3 Collection.

A Tip: We all want SportsFest to be a fun and safe environment. If you notice someone has made a mistake in their required tagging, or any other html or rules related aspect of their comment, do let them know, message them privately rather than replying - if you reply, they can’t edit the comment! If you aren’t comfortable letting the commenter know directly, contact a mod and we will make sure they update the required tags.

If you have any other concerns about Bonus Round Prompts/Fills, you can use this anonymous form to bring them to the mod team. You can submit Bonus Round concerns using this Google Form.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask a mod.

“Ah crap, the barrier moved again,” Yuuri mumbled to himself after clicking on the map at the top corner of the screen. Now of course, he was going to have to find a car because all of his random teammates were either incompetent, 10 year old boys, or both.

As he made his character sprint away from the house he had been looting and towards the road, he heard loud laughter from two people outside the apartment door. Immediately, he recognized one of the people outside the door as his fiancé, so he assumed the other person was probably Chris. The two of them had gone out earlier that night for a drink to commemorate Chris’ retirement from skating and had been gone for the past few hours, leaving Yuuri in the apartment with Makka.

Of course, Victor had invited Yuuri, but Yuuri much preferred staying home and playing PUBG than going out and getting wild with his fiancé, and his fiancé’s best friend.

After listening to a minute or two more of loud laughter and incoherent speaking, Yuuri finally heard the keys being put into the door. It took a lot longer for them to actually unlock the door than usual, which he found out the reason for only seconds later when Chris and Victor came stumbling into the apartment, Chris supporting Victor to keep him upright.

Yuuri looked away from his game for a second to watch them come in, making eye contact with Victor. Obviously Yuuri was expecting to see him completely trashed, but what Yuuri wasn’t expecting was for his fiancé to break down into tears when their eyes locked.

”Yuuuuuuuriii!, he cried, reaching out the arm that wasn’t around Chris towards Yuuri, “You-you’re really here!”

Under the influence of probably far too much alcohol, Victor’s words were incredibly slurred, and his accent was thicker than normal, but Yuuri had been with him for long enough to be able to understand pretty well. “Of course I am, Vitya, I’ve been here the whole time.”

Chris chuckled, guiding Victor over to the couch and helping him sit down next to Yuuri. “I must apologize, Yuuri. Our Victor here had just a little too much to drink. And he’s very emotional tonight, as you can see.”

As soon as Victor was on the couch within arm’s distance of Yuuri, he practically jumped him, clinging onto his fiancé for dear life and sobbing heavily into his shirt. “I-i-i thought you left me!” He mumbled, grabbing fist fulls of Yuuri’s shirt and trying to get closer.

Yuuri wrapped his arms around Victor in return, forgetting about the game that was still open on his laptop and giving all his attention to the love of his life, who was currently soaking his shirt with tears. “Thank you for bringing him back to me, Chris,” he said while giving Chris a grateful nod, “Do you need any help getting home?”

Chris shook his head. “No, no, I’ll be fine. But it looks like you have a lot on your plate now, so I’ll be going. When Victor is sober again, tell him I want to see him once more before I leave Russia.” He turned and left then, waving to Yuuri as he did.

When Chris was gone, Yuuri immediately returned his attention to Victor bringing one hand up to his head to run it through his hair. The poor man reeked of vodka, but that was the least important thing right now. “I would never leave you, Vitya,” he assured, “Why would you ever think that?”

Victor looked up at him then, eyes already red and puffy from crying, “'cause everyone does! Why Yuuri? Why does no one like me?”

Yuuri’s heart broke for Victor. Even though Victor was drunkenly speaking to him, Yuuri knew there was some truth behind his words. “Everyone loves you, Vitya, me especially. You are wonderful, so, so wonderful.”

“Then why am I so… so odinokiy?” He asked, voice barely above a whisper now.

Luckily, Yuuri had been practicing Russian since he moved to St. Petersburg, and he was able to identify the word Victor used as lonely. It only broke Yuuri’s heart more to hear that. His poor fiancé had been lonely. He neglected life and love for his career, pushing away friends, relationships, and even family so he could succeed. And succeed he did… but sometimes Yuuri wondered, was the price worth the product?

In the end, the two of them did meet and fall in love, so Yuuri supposed the answer to his question was yes, it was all worth it in the end. But that didn’t change that fact that Victor was emotionally scarred from so many years of neglecting his emotions and being alone. Just as Yuuri sometimes feared Victor would leave him, Victor also feared that Yuuri would be the one to leave.

“You’re not anymore, love,” he informed him gently, smiling at Victor.

Victor’s eyes, still wet with tears, widened at Yuuri’s statement and he clutched at his shirt tighter. “I’m not?”

Yuuri shook his head. “No silly, you have me now. And you will have me forever.”

“I have you,” Victor repeated, some of the sadness finally fading out of his voice.

“You have me, and you always will,” Yuuri promised. He would never leave this man. Never. Not only because at this point, Yuuri pretty much needed Victor like he needed air to breathe. But also because Victor needed him the same way, and leaving him while knowing that would break Yuuri’s heart.

Yuuri loved him. And when you love someone, truly love someone, their needs become your own, and their feelings become just as important as your own. So of course, Yuuri could never ever leave him. It would hurt too much.

Victor said nothing else after that, he just wrapped his arms around Yuuri once more for a hug, burying his nose in the crook of Yuuri’s neck.

During the whole hug, which lasted long after Victor had dozed off, Yuuri held him close, as if he was protecting him from the world around them. Yuuri wanted to help him fix his scars more than anything. But that would take a lot of time and a lot of patience. So for now, he could just start with helping him sober up.

They told me to be more serious
They told me to be responsible
What’s wrong with being young
I just wanna feel alive

They told me this is more like it
They told me this is growing up
I don’t think this change is good
I’m not sure what I’m feeling

They told me they were proud
They told me I’m grown up now
They didn’t tell me the cost
The cost was going numb

You told me this was enough
You told me to ignore everyone else
You looked like you missed someone
Which I guess is fair

I don’t know where I went
I don’t know how to feel anymore
I don’t know how to come back

But babe-chan please
Can you help me back

Kuroo watches Daishou from behind his cup, ignoring the constant drunken chatter from Bokuto next to him. The way Daishou sways and clings to some random guy burns just as much as the liquor burns his throat. He takes another chug from his drink, frowns when he realizes he’ll need another refill soon. There’s not enough alcohol in the world to help him, not when he subjects himself to keeping watch of Daishou.

“Dude, are you listening?” Bokuto nudges him.

“Yeah,” Kuroo lies.

If Bokuto weren’t drunk, then he would have called out Kuroo for lying.

A pair of arms wraps around Daishou’s waist. The plastic cup in his hand caves under Kuroo’s grip as he watches. Those arms start leading a stumbling Daishou off through the crowd.

“Sorry, I gotta go,” Kuroo hands Bokuto his cup, standing.

“Wait - Kuroo!”

The amount of liquor he’s had in his drinks hits him once he starts walking, his head swimming as he pushes through the crowd of dancing bodies. It’s hot and stuffy inside the house, smells of liquor and tobacco that make his stomach lurch. Kuroo can’t wait to leave, can’t wait to get Daishou out of this safely. He finally spots Daishou and the stranger together in the hallway, getting ready to enter an empty room and Kuroo’s now desperately shoving other guests out of his way without apologies.

His hand grabs Daishou’s and he yanks, “Suguru, we’re leaving.”

Though Daishou fights him, just like he always does. “I’m busy!”

“Not anymore, let’s go.”

Kuroo tugs on Daishou once more before the stranger gets a chance to chime in, because despite how many times this happens, he still hasn’t perfected fending off drunk, aggressive strangers that just want to get in Daishou’s pants. He isn’t good at getting angry or yelling, and it’s frustrating enough having to face people that only want a taste of Daishou, who deserves more than a drunken hook-up.

Daishou stumbles, but Kuroo catches him, pulling him through the hallway and crowded living room before finally meeting fresh air.

The breeze clears his head, and he sighs in relief.

“Piss off -,” Daishou slurs, breaking free of Kuroo’s hold with a single shove.

Kuroo lets him walk ahead by himself, too tired and tipsy to pull Daishou back. They walk back to Daishou’s apartment in silence. It’s better that way; the cold shoulder is always better than watching Daishou hook-up with a random guy.

As usual, Daishou lets him in without question and promptly collapses on the couch.

He raids Daishou’s kitchen for two glasses of water, downing his own and handing Daishou the other.

“Drink,” Kuroo plops down next to him.

Daishou stares at the glass like Kuroo’s just offered him poison.

“It’s not gonna kill you.”

All the alcohol and random hook-ups will kill him, and Kuroo tries his best to intervene. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. Daishou drinks and drinks until he forgets, drinks until he thinks he’s free, but Kuroo knows he isn’t. Kuroo watches Daishou drink enough to convince himself that any random person will do for the night. It’s painful to see and to intercept, but Kuroo will always try to catch Daishou when he falls.

The glass is still full when Daishou slams it on the coffee table, and Kuroo’s ready to reach over and force the water down until Daishou climbs into his lap. He freezes, just like he always does.

Kuroo hates the way Daishou fits perfectly in his lap, hates and loves when Daishou leans forward and kisses him. Kuroo hates that he reciprocates, but he always comes to his senses when he can taste the liquor on Daishou’s lips and pushes him away.

“Suguru, stop -” Kuroo pleads, but Daishou still holds his cheeks, keeping him close.

“You’re so unfair,” Daishou whimpers. “Stop barging in when all you do is push me away.”

He never wants to push Daishou away, wants to have him close and by his side, but they never approach the subject while sober. Daishou always comes onto him, always talks about them when he’s drunk and defeated, but he never says anything in the morning, so Kuroo doesn’t either.

Kuroo shakes his head, “Not when you’re like this.” He sighs, “I’m sorry.”

His heart drops into the pit of his stomach when Daishou’s bottom lip trembles. “I hate you.” Kuroo knows that’s not true at all.

“I know.”

Daishou sniffs, burying his head in the crook of Kuroo’s neck and clutching at the front of Kuroo’s shirt. Kuroo doesn’t have the strength to push him away now, listens to Daishou’s quiet whimpers until his breathing evens out.

He knows they won’t speak of it in the morning, doubts Daishou will even remember, and the cycle will repeat again.

Daiki lets his head rest on his hand, swirling the amber liquid around in the glass. There’s smoke in the air, and his vision is starting to blur.

It’s nothing new.

He’s practically been living in this shithole of a bar since graduation. It’s better this way. It’s better to spend his nights in a drunken haze, speech slurred and feelings numbed.

It’s better than remembering, and thinking, and feeling.

This night is no different than any other, bass thumping in his ears and whiskey in his hand.

But it is different.

It’s different, because one minute he’s alone, and the next minute someone’s sitting down next to him.

He squints up, about to tell them to fuck off, when he recognizes blond locks, perfectly sculpted, and a smile that can light up a room.

“Fancy seeing you here, Aominecchi!!” Kise greets as he sits down, “It’s been a while!”

“It’s only been a month, Kise-chin,” Murasakibara mumbles as he sits on Daiki’s other side.

“That’s too long!” Kise insists with a pout, and Daiki rubs his temples.

“What the fuck are you doing here,” he deadpans, annoyed that his solitude’s been interrupted.

“I’m here to get a drink, Mine-chin,” Murasakibara tells blandly, “Kise-chin wanted to come here because he’s stalking you.”

“I am not!!” Kise protests, but a raised eyebrow from Daiki is enough to make him sigh. “Okay, fine. I might have seen you come in here, like, a week ago, and I wanted to make sure you’re doing okay.”

Daiki barks out a laugh. “You brought the Sasquatch along to make sure I’m okay?”

“Don’t make me crush you,” Murasakibara threatens, but he sounds bored. The old threat has gotten, well, old.

“I don’t know why he’s here, actually,” Kise admits, “I was going to come alone.”

“Aka-chin told me you’d pay for my drinks,” Murasakibara says.

“Gehh!” Kise exclaims, “I’m not that rich, Murasakibaracchi!!”

Daiki snorts. It’s been so long since he’s genuinely laughed, and that thought makes him pause.

“I missed you dicks,” he admits.

“Aww, Aominecchi!!” Kise coos, immediately draping himself over Daiki’s shoulders and stealing his drink.

“Hey, give that back,” Daiki demands.

“Nope! I’m cutting you off,” Kise tells firmly, “I talked to the bartender earlier this week, and he told me all kinds of things about your drinking habits.

Daiki makes a mental note to murder Imayoshi next time he sees the asshole of a bartender, and glares at Kise. “You’re not my fucking mother, Kise. Give it back.”

“No way, Mine-chin,” Murasakibara yawns. “You’re depressed. It’s kinda obvious.”

“So?!”

“I guess I care about you,” Murasakibara shrugs, and Daiki is floored by the admission. Murasakibara doesn’t care about anything but booze, sweets, and gravure mags, so it’s a huge fucking shock to hear that Murasakibara cares about him.

“I care about you too, Aominecchi!!” Kise adds, “We’re not gonna let you drink yourself to death!”

“I’m not drinking myself to death,” Daiki denies, but it’s weak. He sighs, shoving Kise off of him. “I’m not gonna fuck you two, if that’s what this is about.”

“I mean, I wouldn’t say no,” Murasakibara drawls, “but that’s not why we’re here.”

“I already told you, Aominecchi, I just want to make sure you’re okay!!” Kise insists.

Daiki sighs again, letting his head fall into his hands. “Fine. I’m not okay. Happy now?”

“I won’t be happy unless you let us help you,” Kise says gently.

“And how are you gonna do that?” Daiki demands, “I’m in here every night because I don’t wanna feel anything. I’ve got nothing left now that we’ve graduated, and I’ve been in love with this fucking Sasquatch since junior high. How are you going to fix that, Kise?”

Murasakibara snickers. Daiki turns to face him, ready to tear him a new one, when the giant asshole swoops down and kisses him.

“There,” he says, pulling back and digging a lollipop out of his pocket. “Step one done. You’re dating us now. Kise-chin will take care of step two.”

“Murasakibaracchi, that’s not really how you help someone,” Kise says weakly, but stops when Daiki snorts.

“It’s fine, Kise,” Daiki waves him off, “I don’t give a fuck how you do it, I just want you to help me. And I guess I want you to love me, too.”

“Course I love you, Aominecchi,” Kise grins, and he leans forward to give Daiki a kiss as well. “Since middle school, just like you.”

Daiki grins, and it’s genuine. He can’t remember the last time he’s laughed this much, or smiled this much, or even talked this much since graduation.

But, he thinks, looking at his two asshole boyfriends, he’ll be okay. With time, he’ll be okay.

If they’re next to him, he doesn’t think he’ll mind learning how to feel again.
