Talkback

Talkback

Talkback is a place for you to give your feedback about the event and how it could be improved. While the mod team is subject to change, we hope this will help future mods to run the event.

How to participate

There are two main ways to participate in Talkback!

  1. Reply to this post in a comment. Other participants will be able to contribute in the discussion, and your feedback will not be anonymous. Mods will also be able to participate in the discussion, unless you specify that you’d prefer we not reply to your feedback.

  2. Submit this Google Form. Your feedback will be completely anonymous.

Additionally, if you’re not comfortable with either of these options, you can send an email to the Official Mod Email Account (sportsfest.mods@gmail.com) with the subject line “Sportsfest 2019 Talkback.”

Main Talkback Points

Here are some of the main discussion points, if you want a more detailed list of topics please refer to the next section:

  • How did SportsFest go generally? What were the biggest hang-ups, and what worked well?
  • What are your thoughts on nominations and team sign-ups?
  • How did Main Round and Bonus Rounds go? What was your favorite and least favorite aspect?
  • How well did we communicate information about the event?

Please, please do not feel like you have to answer every single question! These are just meant to be a starting point. Feel free to pick up only one question or a couple ones.

Detailed Talkback Points

We’ve listed some of the questions and topics we’ve been thinking about over the course of the event below. You’re free to comment on them or you may choose to comment on any other aspect of the event. Any aspect of the event is considered fair game for Talkback.

A. General
  • How was the general schedule of the event?
  • We moved MR and BR’s deadlines away and allowed more time for Comment Round, do you think it was helpful?
  • How were the interactions with the mod team?
  • How were your experiences in the Discord server?
  • How did you keep up to date with event news (Discord/Twitter/Tumblr)?
  • We made a few changes to the scoring and point threshold. It was no longer based on team size and we tried to balance BR and MR points values. How did you feel this system worked out?
  • How did you feel about halftime signups?

B. Pre-Event
  • We apologize for the hiccup during the Nomination period, as we were not clear enough on the nomination criteria (eg the activity must not harm deadly or rely on luck). Do you think we should review those criteria for future iterations? And thus widen the scope of the event.
  • How did the nomination system work out? We re-opened fandom nominations at Halftime, but would people be interested in having nominations open throughout the entire event?
  • How did team formation go? What did you think of the different team options (ship, character, team, etc.?) Was any of it confusing?
  • Did the team worksheet help? Was there any difficulties getting in touch with your teammates ?
  • What did you think of the Icebreakers?
  • Were the tutorials helpful? Was there any other information you would have wanted to know about the event or Dreamwidth beforehand?

C. Main Rounds and Bonus Rounds
  • What did you think of the BR and MR themes?
  • How did Grandstand MRs work out? Was the form to find teammates helpful?
  • For MR we took advantage of the submission queue and added a mod check and editing period after the MR due date. How do you feel about the MR posting?
  • How did you feel about the MR Awards? What do you think of the nomination categories (Most unique interpretation and most outstanding presentation) and form?
  • For those who used the Afterhours community, how was the experience?
  • How did you feel about the tagging and rating system?

D. Remix, Comments, Rec Rounds
  • Remix permissions were collected through Google Form and centralised on a sheet with a searching tool. The form also allowed creators to give specific permissions for different types of remix. How do you feel about this system? Was it confusing?
  • How did you feel about Remix Round running for the entire course of the event with two dedicated weeks at the end?
  • For Rec round we scored by participation and no longer number of posts, did it feel fairer?
  • Do recs/comments feel genuine when they’re for points?

Thank you for your patience, please contact the mods if you have any questions.
