Rules

Submit prompts by commenting any AU or UA idea of your choice.
AU stands for Alternate Universe. This is a broad trope that involves everything from placing the characters in wildly different settings to slightly adjusting key points.
UA stands for Universe Alteration, a subtype of AU. Its meaning is similar to canon divergence i.e settings that are mostly like canon expect a few points are changed.
You may suggest what role the characters have in said universe or let it to the filler's imagination.

Prompts can be in any language as long as you provide an English translation!

All things considered, the move from Tanzania to Japan wasn’t all that bad. Having learned most of the basics of the language back in school, there weren’t many obvious obstacles that Musa was unprepared for. Of course, there were always a few things here or there that his institution hadn’t done the best job teaching him, but that was to be expected. And besides, living so far away from home in and of itself was a feat all on its own.

If the language barrier wasn’t an issue, Musa’s anxiety definitely was. There’s only so much last minute Duolingo lessons on the plane ride up and flashcards can teach, after all, so it’s a bit of a miracle that Musa can communicate with those around him in the slightest. (And for all of his friends at school to appreciate him as much as they do, as well. Musa certainly is blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people on a daily basis.)

Which brings the issue of Musa’s roommate, Sugiyama Takashi. He’s not a bad person, per se, and in fact Musa really admires him for all of the work he’s done on his own and for their long distance running team. There’s not many people who can look a challenge in the eye and face it head on, but Takashi--Shindo, as he’d insisted Musa called him when they first met, is one of them.

So it’s not as much of a fundamental problem with Takashi as it is a… specific, yet minor one. You see, whenever Musa thinks he’s all alone in their room, Taka--

“Hey, Musa,” says a small, yet confident voice from the opposite side of the room. Musa turns and, sure enough Sugiyama Shindo Takashi stands in the doorway, hands in his pockets and grinning from ear to ear. “Do you have time to go with me to lunch today?”

There it goes again! Musa feels himself frown in concentration as he observes Shindo’s facial expression. Megawatt smile, for sure an indicator that he actually, genuinely likes Musa. But the rest of his expression? Completely inscrutable. He clutches his hands at his waist now, fumbling with the edge of his shirt with the pointer and middle finger of each hand. Almost like he’s…

Nervous?

Musa can’t tell. And he doesn’t want to make people feel nervous, either, so this is probably a bad idea. He has to… stop doing it, whatever it is he’s doing.

But first, lunch.

“Sure,” Musa says, trying to match Shindo’s enthusiasm. “I’d love to.”

“Great,” Shindo says immediately, words almost bursting off the tip of his tongue as if they’d been waiting to be released for hours, not moments. “Wanna go?”
