AU stands for Alternate Universe. This is a broad trope that involves everything from placing the characters in wildly different settings to slightly adjusting key points.
UA stands for Universe Alteration, a subtype of AU. Its meaning is similar to canon divergence i.e settings that are mostly like canon expect a few points are changed.
You may suggest what role the characters have in said universe or let it to the filler's imagination.

For Oikawa, the only place he can afford to ruminate about his regrets is off the volleyball court.

Which, even for him, is admittedly still a lot of the time. He’s a high school student, after all, even if he’s playing on the team that everyone and their grandmother would put money on going to Nationals every year for a long time. In the moments he’s not ruminating about what could’ve been, he’s strategizing, analyzing, thinking through every move his opponents could possibly make.

The strategies aren’t good enough of a distraction, not when the reason for his tactical maneuvers themselves is so close to the issue that dares to rip his heart straight from his chest. There’s only so much he can do, anyway, when Shiratorizawa is as good as they are. When Oikawa’s doing such an immaculate job of leading them already. When Ushijima uses so much brute force to render Oikawa’s plans for the team useless.

There’s a team he could’ve chosen, a team he arguably should have chosen. An underdog he would want to root for, had the cards he’d been dealt fallen face-first. A team he could have been captain on. A chance he could have gotten to pass the blur that is Ushijima Wakatoshi.

Aoba Johsai. Seijoh. Home to all of Kitagawa Daiichi’s notable volleyball graduates in the past three years. All of them, except Oikawa. Their ace, their captain, leads them valiantly, even when completely outmatched. Watching him makes Oikawa burn.

There had been a time where Oikawa did not doubt for a moment he’d be standing beside Iwaizumi through it all. It’s only now that he sees it: a scholarship, a promise, they all meant nothing compared to him. Only, he’d been too unsure to make the decision as a middle schooler.

How much farther would he have made it, had he chosen Iwaizumi? Would he have gotten the opportunity to take down Ushijima, once and for all? Would he be happier? Would the regret still pulsate in his bones, through his blood, all throughout his body at even the slightest urging?

Because, even after winning their third consecutive invitation to Nationals, Oikawa is left fighting back the bitter taste of bile in his throat. One can only make it so far on their own. He cannot change a reality he’s already forged for himself.

Maybe in another reality, he supposes.

Tetsurô had spent his break between his first and second year at UA in complete bliss since he had already gotten the news that his next door neighbour and childhood friend Kenma had been accepted there as well. They had, as usual, been joined at the hip during the these two weeks and he had to admit that he hadn’t suspected a thing. It’s only on the first day, for the entrance ceremony that he had gotten the first warning sign aka Kenma hadn’t met him at the door to head to school together. It had been unusual for them since as long as Tetsurô could remember they had always taken that path together when possible. Frowning all the way, he still was completely clueless as to why Kenma would have gone ahead. He arrived quite early, scanning through the crowd of excited first years for a distinct mop of mid-length black hair but was once again unsuccessful. Deciding to go directly confront him in his classroom, he looked at the assignments for his childhood friend’s name only to freeze, gaping when he finally found it.

Kenma knew he couldn’t hide this from Kuro for much longer but still, as he sat at his desk in class 1-B of the General Departments of UA, his legs didn’t stop shaking in anticipation. He took a deep breath to try to calm himself and just at this moment, as if on cue, he heard loud footsteps coming his way and the familiar, if unusually angry voice spoke up.

“Kozume Kenma !”

Instead of looking up to face the situation, he buried his face in his crossed arms on his desk though he couldn’t help but roll his eyes as his friend had taken his mom’s habit of calling his full name whenever she was angry at him.

A pair of long legs stopped right in front of him and the slap of a palm against his desk made him jump, uncovering his face. Two black eyes stared angrily at his and the hint of hurt prevented him from trying to avoid his gaze.

“What are you doing here, Kenma ?”

A moment passed before he got the courage to reply.

“It’s my assigned classroom.”

Kuro gritted his teeth, trying to reel in the anger but Kenma could already feel the desk melting.

“Why the General Studies ?? What happened ? Did you fail ?”

His voice cracked at the last word and Kenma knew he couldn’t keep it up anymore.

“I.. I never applied to Heroics.”

He had played this conversation countlessly in his mind and mainly Kuro’s reaction but he had to admit that even with all this preparation, he felt his heart ache. The crestfallen look in his dearest friend’s face was almost too much to bear.

He carefully watched as the hurt let place to incomprehension and then turned blank.

“Was telling even one of the option or was always supposed to find it like that ?”

It was low, but Kenma thought that he probably deserved this comment but before he could reply he got cut off.

“And please don’t feed me the ‘It depends’ bullshit. You knew how the options would play out and you still did nothing.”

The younger boy’s eyes widened as he realised what was going to come next. It had been one of the options, and it was simultaneously the best and worst one.

“You know, I really believed in you. I was ready to help you through it all so that you could gain confidence and save people and be able to become a Hero. But really right now all I can think about is all the moments I was stupidly getting excited on my own about childish, naive dreams of our future as Heroes and you just stayed there and said nothing.”

He let out a dry laugh and Kenma’s heart constricted a bit more. He hadn’t seen that one coming.

“I suppose you already know, but don’t bother showing up from now on.”

Fists clenched to prevent his rage from doing more damaged, he swiftly got out of the classroom barely avoiding collinding with the homeroom teacher.

Kenma sat back down, looking at the perfectly hand-shaped hole in his desk and soon enough he saw as tears fell right through it and onto the floor below.

He had made the right decision. He needed that statement he had been repeating to himself for months now to be true. He had already known what was going to happen, but he hadn’t been ready for it.

Shoving his hand in the pocket of his uniform, he started playing with the little micro the League of Villains had put on him to make sure he kept his word.

It ended up being longer than I anticipated but I still think it's good like this.The Brother/Friend relationship is not explicit but as I was writing I imagined Kuroko as the brother and Kagami as Aomine's friend (I'm KagaKuro trash sue me). I tried not to paraody the original amazing scence too much even though it still follows more or less the construct. Well I tried, hope you enjoy !

The silence was a good start for Satsuki to re-organise her thoughts, not that they ever got too scattered, but some recentering, considering the very upsetting news she had just gotten, was necessary. The cause of her distress was certainly the last person she wished to see, thus why she had prefered staying here instead of going with her hosts to the Lady’s Mansion for supper. And she could only stare, dumbfounded when this same man walked in like he owned the place not even half an hour later.

He bowed, because if he had any redeeming qualities it was to stick to the etiquette.

“I’ve heard you had a headache and came to enquire about your improvement.”

She could hardly believe it. Any else would have gotten the hint and she briefly wondered whether he was just too stupid to get it or if just didn’t care either way. She must admit she was leaning towards the latter.

“I’ve been slowly getting better, I thank you for your concerns, Mr Aomine.”

Bound as she was by the laws of good manners, she gestured towards the armchair for him to sit on while she accommodated herself on the couch behind her. Once settled, she waited for him to start a conversation as she had no desire to spark one between them. After all, he had been the one to seek her company even if the reason was still unclear to her. The intensity of his gaze on her was getting more and more uncomfortable as he kept silent.

He suddenly stood up, almost startling her in the process and she kept her indifferent eyes on him as his tall, muscular frame started pacing, stopping by moments to stare at her. She could clearly see that he had something in mind but as more time passed, she was about to lose patience and that’s exactly when she was about to speak up that he finally did and as soon as the words were out, she regretted allowing that to happen.

“I’ve battled against these feelings of mine for the longest time. A battle started to no avail because against my better judgment I’ve decided to confess how ardently I admire and love you.”

He took a big gulp of breath as if a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders just as Satsuki’s felt heavier.

“I am aware that our union would be absolutely disastrous from a social status standpoint, as your rank in the ladder is so far below mine. My education has drilled into me that I should be listening to these objections but my heart cannot stand for it. Let my mind be at peace once again by consenting to be my wife, Miss Momoi. Please.”

Satsuki wouldn’t have been able at that point to tell what had been the more shocking, or humiliating revelation of that terrible confession. She was boiling with rage, now. How dare he make such an announcement ?

“And my education has drilled into me that I should feel grateful for this kind of attention, but I cannot.”

They stared into each other’s eyes, pinkish meeting blue and Aomine frowned.

“Is that it ? May I at least inquire why my proposal is being rejected so rudely ?”

At that sentence, Satsuki threw all of her manners to the wind and stood up.

“Me, rude, Mr. Aomine ? And what about you who just spent this proposal humiliating and belittling me for my social rank ? Me, the woman you claim you love enough to wish to marry ? Wouldn’t that be enough to explain my rudeness, Mr. Aomine ?”

His tone escalated in kind.

“Aren’t all these ‘belittling’ sentences just facts, Miss Momoi ? Or would you have preferred me to flatter your ego by pretending society, or even my family, wouldn’t have frowned upon this marriage, to put it nicely ? Are you that delusional ?”

“In what world do you live in that this proposal where you admit loving me despite your better judgment and look this averse to it, almost disgusted by the idea, would have ever been accepted ?”

He didn’t reply and she went in for the kill.

“I had only known you for a short moment when I realised your arrogance and disdain for anyone below your social status. All those defaults, although severe wouldn’t have warranted you such curtness from me if you hadn’t been the reason for my brother’s misfortune.”

She waited but he didn’t seem to want to talk back at that, and that sure was a first for him.

“You make yourself the judge of people’s happiness and feel entitled enough to take it away from them and as far as I’m concerned, this is the kind of person you are, Mr. Aomine.”

His head and shoulders were hanging low, and he was avoiding her gaze. She had never seen him look so vulnerable, and despite her, she felt a pang in her chest like she had been beating a dead horse.

“Enough.You’ve said enough, Miss Momoi. I’m sorry to have deeply upset you tonight and I will now leave you alone.”

He bowed before putting his hat back on, lower on his eyes than she had ever seen him do and promptly left the room.

Satsuki practically collapsed back on her couch and exhaled a long beleaguered sigh.

The Holy Grail War was a serious competition between Magi. Seven Masters pitted against each other in a battle to death where anything goes.

Previous matches had seen eldritch abominations in the middle of town, a highjacked government fighter jet and not to mention the small nuke of malice and death that had obliterated part of the map. The body count was often so high that it included nearly all the masters and servants, their support staff and countless clueless bystanders.

Yet, like bees to nectar, more Magi always rushed to participate for a chance at that one omnipotent wish. They never stopped to wonder if the wish was even possible. There had never been a winner of a Holy Grail war and there had never been a wish granted. There was no proof. Yet they believed that they would be the one.

However, after an incident in the Third War, the Grail was corrupted. The logical selection of high-class Magus Masters was shattered to dust as the Grail began deliriously picking masters from anyone with the slightest hint of talent who was within range. Third-rate Magus, regular humans with a love of blood sacrifice, people who never even knew they had magic circuits. It was a mess.

The only sensible choices that occurred that year were the traditional Magus representing each of the three great families.

Considered the strongest mage of his generation within Fuyuki, Kageyama Tobio was a branch member of the Tousaka that had such precision in his jewelcraft that there was talk of him inheriting a fraction of the Tousaka crest. He was proud and hot tempered but socially awkward. He had few people to talk to about magecraft his age and it led to a difficulty with social interaction. He was too proud to admit it, but life had been very lonely before he ran into Hinata.

Opposing him was a third-rate Magus, Hinata Shoyo. His family had passed on before they could instruct him in magecraft and all his skills we built on guesswork. But his reinforcement, specifically his body reinforcement, made him able to jump higher and run faster than most Magus. He couldn’t curse or bewitch or layer boundary fields, but he was resilient like a determined cockroach and brave enough to face down enemy heroic spirits without flinching. Of course, Kageyama would call that bravery, idiocy, before he did it himself several days later to stop Lancer from putting his spear through Hinata.

They had always been at odds in school, not quite hostile but their social circles were on different levels. They had little reason to interact.

Instead of the Grail War pushing their distant irritation at each other into an easy excuse for mutual bloodshed, they instead formed the most steadfast alliance to ever exist in a Grail War.

Usually alliances did form, but they were temporary and quickly broken, full of backstabbing and treachery. These partnerships usually ended in blood and poison and murder. It was commonly expected that no matter how well you worked together or liked each other, in the end, once the reason for the alliance was over or dead, you would have to turn your blades on each other.

But those two teenagers somehow formed a duo that managed to fight down all opposition and win. And then they kept going, shattering the corrupted grail and tying the Servants to reality as familiars. They were less powerful, but they would gladly give up the power for more time with their sweetheart.

By all accounts the alliance should have failed just like all the others before it. Maybe it was held together because of their staunch trust in each other. Hinata’s stubborn belief in Kageyama and Kageyama’s stubborn belief right back. To put it simply, they were a pair of stubborn idiots who hadn’t even thought of betraying each other.

Maybe their win was because they had two of the three Knight classes as their servants. The strongest classes with extremely high magic resistance that could brush off any attacks by opposing masters.

Knight-King Daichi Sawamura of Karasuno. A Saber known for dragging his failing country out of collapse for his entire reign. He had to constantly fight many other countries along his boarders to prevent his small kingdom from being annexed. Not an ancient Servant with untold power and arrogance but something that could be considered even better, a Servant with solid down-to-earth sensibility. Unlike many of the powerful heroes, he was willing to throw away his own pride for the cause and work together with his master and other humans.

The Silver Crow Archer, Koishi Sugawara. He was a cheeky and free-spirited archer that came from a Japanese legend about trickster Tengu. The Tengu usually tried to trick humans but many of the legends had those tricks turning back on the Tengu instead. As a Japanese myth, he held a territory advantage in Fuyuki. If he had been a Tengu at all in real life was not something he would admit. But Servants were manifested based on the public belief of their legend in some ways. It was not extreme enough to make King Arthur’s gender change, but it may warp some of their Noble Phantasms. His just had the misfortune of turning a regular, if remarkable human archer with a penchant for trickery and magic items into an actual Tengu.
The Honourable Knight had been summoned to the equally upright Kageyama’s side.

The Trickster Crow had been called to serve as Archer to an equally mischievous boy.

The Servants truly suited their Masters as they had chosen not to use a historic artifact to call specific heroes and had instead used themselves. That way, although the spirit may not be well-known or strong, they would be well-suited to get along with them.

To say the Servants had immediately hit it off was something of an understatement.

It wasn’t quite love at first sight between the Servants, but they grew fond of each other abnormally quickly. After their first explosive meeting, with feathers flying everywhere with deflected arrows and chips of concrete, they nurtured a solid respect. Daichi was impressed by Suga’s swiftness, how he could avoid Daichi within close range. Suga was impressed by Daichi’s swift deflections and his persistence in closing the distance that gave him a run for his money. Eventually that regard grew into something more intimate.

Suga would tease Daichi mercilessly until the Saber started to chase him down in a weird cross of flirting and sparring. By the end of the war any discussion of splitting up the alliance was quickly derailed when Archer kept dragging Saber into the shed to make out.

He’d told himself months ago not to get worked up about something as stupid and pointless as this. That, for the good of the team and his own sanity, fixating on something as insignificant as a pitcher on an opposing team. Needless to say, he ended up getting worked up about it. He’s working himself up about it right now.

Sawamura Eijun stands on the mound. He winds up, almost gracefully as a leg raises forty five degrees in front of him, and releases a pitch that doesn’t so much fly through the air as it singes everything in its path. It’s almost beautiful, in the same way a collapsing star or an explosion is beautiful.

And for a moment, Kazuya considers what he wouldn’t do to light up the sky with every fiber of Sawamura’s talent.

It’s clear, though, that the southpaw pitcher with stars in his eyes doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. If he hardly knew what he was doing a year ago, when he had visited Seidou and struck out Azuma, how the hell would he figure anything out now? And on such a dismal, hopeless team, too.

Two innings in, two batters down. And it’s a miracle they’ve gotten this far, honestly. Saying that Nagano’s defense has some holes would be the understatement of the game. The catcher is yet to comfortably catch anything Sawamura is throwing, (Miyuki scoffs at the memory. Catching for him would be difficult, he concedes, had someone not been focused on baseball their entire life.) and that’s only the start of it. Every other position player looks completely out of place, never running far enough to meet the ball nor confident enough to make the simpler plays in times of crisis.

Sawamura is a pitch-to-contact kind of pitcher. Being on a team like this can only be harmful to him.

Maybe it’s selfish for Kazuya to wonder why Sawamura would pick these novice kids over him. For being a boy so seemingly focused on winning and glory, Sawamura’s decision couldn’t have been more contradictory to his values.

So Kazuya doesn’t understand, even if he wills himself to. Seidou would have been perfect, for you. Together, we would have been a perfect match.

When they lose, Kazuya does his best to shrug it off. He’ll never understand someone who gave up on winning, on baseball.

He never was much of a people person, anyway.
