You may suggest what role the characters have in said universe or let it to the filler's imagination.

“What the hell?” Kagami almost spit out his bite of burger. “Again? Fuck, do you have to leave on your quirk the whole fucking time?”

Kuroko shrugged. His face was as blank as ever. “It’s turned off.”

“Bullshit,” Kagami said. “I sat down at this table and didn’t notice you at all. Just like last time.”

Kagami blinked, once, twice, and then resumed eating his burger. He had a niggling feeling that there had been something happening before, but he couldn’t quite remember. After all, there was no one to talk to - there was no one in the seat across from him, of course… holy shit.

“Jesus.” Kagami rubbed his forehead and stared at Kuroko. “That was -”

“If I turn my quirk on, Kagami-kun,” Kuroko said, his head cocked to one side, “you won’t even remember that I exist.”

“Yeah, okay. Okay. So before -”

“There’s only so much I can do. There’s bleed, no matter how much I suppress it.”

Kagami laughed. “Jeez, that’s a shitty quirk.”

Kuroko moved his head in a way that could be a shake or a nod. Kagami didn’t really care enough to decode it. “You’re quirkless,” Kuroko replied bluntly.

When you were quirkless, you really had three choices. One, you hide it desperately. You dodge the question, invent a minor quirk, claim faulty paperwork. That’s the most common way, but in Kagami’s experience, it doesn’t work very well. It certainly hadn’t for his mother.

The second option was that you just gave up. You resigned yourself to your lot in life and you didn’t really strive for anything. Your dream was to simply survive. Eventually, Kagami knew, even that dream would give way to the relentless press of life and society. The ending was obvious and predictable. It’s why he had to move to Japan to live with his father.

The third strategy, and the only one that worked, in Kagami’s opinion, was that you fought. You fought every second of your life. You screamed your quirklessness for the world to hear and you dared it to hurt you.

It did. Of course it did. It hurt you over and over in thousands of ways, from tiny microaggressions to outright violence. But every day you got up to fight again, and every day, the world discovered that it could hurt you a little less.

So Kuroko said, “You’re quirkless,” and Kagami replied, “Yes, fuck you.”

“You’re not in the quirkless league.”

“Quirkless sports leagues are a joke, and you know it,” Kagami snarled.

Kuroko nodded. “They wouldn’t let me join.”

Kagami was confused for a second, and then realized. “Because of the bleed.” He paused for a second. “Did you want to join?” he asked.

“My quirk isn’t useful in physical sports,” Kuroko said. It wasn’t really an answer. But Kagami had seen how Kuroko played without a team behind him. He could maybe understand where he was coming from, but….

“It seemed useful enough in the practice match,” he pointed out.

“I didn’t use it.”

Bullshit, Kagami almost said, and then he realized. “That was all just bleed?”

“If I use it, Kagami-kun, no one will see me. No one will pass to me. No one will remember me. The referees will claim that there are too few players on the court.” An expression halfway between a smile and a grimace flitted across his face. “It’s not useful in physical sports.” This time, he sounded like he was quoting someone.

“You were part of the Generation of Miracles,” Kagami argued.

“I was the weakest one,” Kuroko told him. “The others… they have strong quirks. Too strong.”

“You want to beat them.” It wasn’t a question.

“Yes,” Kuroko answered anyway.

“You think we can.”

Kuroko was silent for a long moment. He stared intently at Kagami and then nodded once. “Yes. I… I know we can.”

“A quirkless kid and a shadow?”

A ghost of a smile tugged at Kuroko’s mouth. “Basketball was invented by quirkless people,” he pointed out. “You don’t need a quirk to play. You don’t need one to win.”

Kagami gave him a smile, a sharp thing filled with teeth. “You took the words out of my mouth.”

“I did not,” Kuroko said. “You wouldn’t have said anything like that.”

Kagami scowled. “I would have. More or less.”

“If you say so, Kagami-kun.”

Kagami reached over the table to harshly rub his knuckle into the side of Kuroko’s head. “Shut up! I would have.”

Kuroko put up with the abuse stoically. “It will be hard,” he told Kagami when he’d retreated back to his side of the table. “They are… very strong. Not just their quirks, but physically too.”

“Don’t wimp out on me now,” Kagami replied with a scowl.

“I’m not. I know what I’m getting into.”

“Are you implying that I’m gonna wimp out?” Kuroko was silent. Kagami leaned over the table to get right up into his face.

“Listen,” he whispered to the smaller boy, “there’s been a lot of difficult things in my life. A lot more than you can understand. Trust me when I say that playing basketball against a bunch of entitled pricks won’t even make the top ten. We can beat them.”

Kuroko graced him with a smile, a real one, if brief. “I know, Kagami-kun.”

Kagami huffed and retreated again. “You can’t say it like that. You don’t even know me.”

“I know you well enough.”

“It’s been two days!” Kagami protested. When Kuroko got up to toss his trash away, Kagami followed suit. “Hey,” he asked the other boy as they left the Maji Burger, “do you wanna go play streetball?”

Kuroko shot him a look. “We did yesterday. You weren’t very impressed.”

Kagami shrugged. “Doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be fun. Come on, one game of streetball? No quirks allowed?”

Kuroko huffed out something that sounded suspiciously like a laugh. “Fine, Kagami-kun. No quirks allowed.”

The Karasuno Pack has always been small, Daichi knows that for a fact. But ever since the freak avalanche that killed off half of the pack three years ago – the same event that forced an unprepared youth into the position of pack leader overnight – the pack’s size has shrunk to single digits.

They haven’t even able to muster up a team for the annual Inter-Pack Hunts for the past three years, because they simply haven’t had enough people to send. One more year like this, and they’d be struck off the pack register altogether.

It’s led to talk, here and there, that the former Champions of the Hunt have become flightless crows, their wings plucked and claws trimmed into domesticity.

Daichi cracks an eye open when Kōshi’s fingers stop in their mindless motion of combing through his fur, and he whines a little bit, both in protest and as a question.

There’s no threat around that he can sense: the junior pack members are playing with a ball in the nearby clearing under the supervision of Takeda, Ukai’s skinning the bear they took down this morning, Kiyoko’s gone to the stream to fetch more water, and Azumane’s off to make sure there aren’t any more predators lurking about their territory.

"There’s no point in worrying about things you can’t change," Kōshi says suddenly, without looking at him. He’s staring into the distance where the junior members are playing, just barely visible from their vantage point atop the Pride Rock they’re sprawled on, Kōshi snuggled up against his back in deference to the early autumn chill.

It’s a well-worn argument between them. Daichi lets his tongue loll out, settling back down on his paws. He’s the pack leader, and sometimes he just worries, even if he knows intellectually that there’s nothing he could’ve done, no way of saving their packmates from that avalanche, no way of enticing new shifters into joining a motley pack that has nothing to offer them. They aren’t like Datekō over in the next mountain range with its impenetrable defences, or Aoba Jōsai with its overwhelming strength, or even Nekoma with… well, Nekoma only takes in feline shifters anyway, so it’s sort of a moot point.

He headbutts Kōshi’s hand pointedly.

Kōshi laughs in surprise, finally meeting his gaze. His eyes are a gorgeous hazel, his hair tinted the same silver shade as his fur – not that Daichi has seen much of it in the past three years. Kōshi tends to stay in human form these days, even when they bed down at night, choosing to use Daichi and Azumane as makeshift duvets instead of shifting into his own fur.

They don’t talk about it. Daichi tries not to think about the fact that had Kōshi been in wolf form three years ago, he would’ve gone right over the edge of the cliff when the avalanche hit, without the benefit of having opposable thumbs and fingers to cling on to an outcrop until Daichi found him. It’s not in their nature to dwell, but sometimes…

Kōshi frowns, sitting up. “Do you hear that?”

Daichi shakes his head, getting to his paws. Kōshi’s hearing has always been better than his, his awareness of their territory more well-developed.

“I thought –” Kōshi cuts himself off, scrambling off the rock and taking off at a run.

It’s the work of seconds for Daichi to catch up, Kōshi’s two legs no match for his four paws, and by then he too can hear what caught Kōshi’s attention in the first place.

Azumane’s back, but he’s in human form, and he’s not alone.

“Found these two,” he says shortly, depositing a raggedly bundle of feathers and a bigger ball of fur at their feet.

The black feathers uncurled into the tiniest shifter Daichi has ever seen, his orange beak barely coming up to Daichi’s forelimbs. He’s a… raven? No, a crow? The other ball of fur turns out to be a black fox, with the same flinty eyes that always reminds Daichi sharply of Oikawa.

Are they… lost?

The crow shakes himself, shifting back to human form. He’s not much bigger in this form either, practically the same height as Yū, with a crown of orange-coloured hair and a determined expression on his face.

“I’m Hinata Shōyō, this bastard is Kageyama Tobio, and we want to join your pack,” he declares.

The black fox twists himself into human form too, a massive scowl upon his face, but he doesn’t contradict Hinata’s words.

Daichi and Kōshi exchange a deeply bemused look.

“Uh…” Kōshi says, when it becomes clear that the two newcomers have no intention to elaborate. “Why?”

“I’m a fan of the Small Giant!” Hinata chirps brightly. “He used to be in Karasuno?”

It’s a reasonable request, Daichi supposes. There are few enough bird-shifters out there that many packs don’t welcome them the way Karasuno would.

Kageyama’s scowl darkens further when they look at him, but Daichi can’t smell any aggression from him, only frustration. “… I didn’t get into Shiratorizawa,” he finally admits in a mumble.

Kōshi stares, and Daichi can’t blame him. Even if he doesn’t get into Shiratorizawa, there are plenty of packs out there – if he was even a viable consideration for Shiratorizawa at all, he would’ve been a perfect member for just about any other pack out there.

“So I want to beat them to prove that I can,” Kageyama finishes in a rush.

Daichi hums, and then twists his body up, shifting into his own human form. “So you chose a pack where you’d be guaranteed a starter position in the Inter-Pack Hunts,” he points out bluntly. Another pack, and a newcomer like Kageyama would’ve been relegated to reserve, or even spectator… but he’s right. Karasuno doesn’t have that kind of luxury, not if they want to stay on the pack register and hold on to their territory.

Kageyama’s fists clench, and in his eyes Daichi can see the same thirst for victory that has dogged his dreams for the past three years.

“Well,” he says gruffly, holding out a hand. “Welcome to Karasuno, then.”

Some speculated that he might retire this season, but his masterful performance and no word of any steady partner seems to lay such rumours to rest. As for one of the two alphas in the Grand Prix Finals this year, Katsuki Yuuri, this is his first time qualifying for the Grand Prix Finals –”

There’s no need to drive it in. Yuuri already knows that he’s a terrible alpha, the worst specimen of the alpha sub-gender. An alpha is meant to be competitive, to win over the crowd, to lead by example, to provide for and care for their followers. Not Katsuki Yuuri, who’d rather stay home with a computer game and pig out on katsudon if he doesn’t have a competition to practise for. He loves skating, he’s good at it, but the crowds freak him out. Whoever’s heard of an alpha who’s afraid of something as banal as an audience?

Just about the only thing that’s like an alpha for him is his magnetic, useless attraction to Viktor Nikiforov, him and probably hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. It’s in an omega’s innate drive to be flashy, to preen for the audience like a peacock showing off its plumage, and Nikiforov’s skating is the perfect example of his sub-gender.

Yuuri’s not surprised, when he checks his phone, to see frantic messages from Phichit asking him to avoid his Twitter feed for a while. After all, Viktor did just show up unannounced at his doorstep, declare that he’ll be Yuuri’s new coach – while naked, he’s trying not to think about that part – and then posting a slew of Geo-Tagged photos on Instagram to tell the world exactly where he is? If Yuuri was anyone else, he’d be wondering the same thing too. Since his debut eleven years ago, Viktor has never missed a full skating season, not even the time he tore his ACL.

But now, to drop his entire career to coach an ordinary skater like Yuuri… it’s easy to wonder if there isn’t something else going on. Viktor’s an omega without a mate, and Yuuri whatever his faults is a decent skater. Since Viktor can’t actually find an alpha who can actually beat him, perhaps he’ll settle for an alpha who can at least skate on the same ice as him?

Yuuri knows that’s not true, of course. Viktor is a merciless slave driver, and his workout regimes are way harder than anything Celestino’s ever designed for him. This whole thing certainly isn’t a farce at courtship like what the paparazzi would have the world believe; Viktor actually seems genuine about wanting to coach him into a Grand Prix Final medal.

But he can’t help but wish, sometimes, that Viktor really did have an ulterior motive in coming to Japan.

Chris took off his hat as he stepped inside the cigar shop. The bell overhead announcing his arrival. Everything in the store looked immaculate. The glass cases. The dark wood shelves. The boxes of cigars neatly stacked and displayed.

Though Chris always figured it was easy to keep it that way when no one ever came to buy cigars.

Not that he had ever been able to prove that.

“Well, well, if it isn’t Prohibition Agent Takigawa,” drawled a voice that Chris had come to know all too well.

Kazuya Miyuki. Owner and operator of Steel Cigars. A name that Chris always felt was mocking him. He wouldn’t put it past Kazuya to have the gumption.

Chris suspected the name harkened back to when they were kids. When Chris caught Kazuya palming bubble gum from his father’s corner store. Kazuya had taken off faster than Chris could grab him. Sticking his tongue out at him as he made his escape.

Kazuya had grown out of his rags and knobby knees and dirt-streaked cheeks. He had transformed himself into a man who wore impeccable three-piece suits and charming smiles.

And Chris wasn’t fooled in the least. Kazuya was still, in many ways, thumbing his nose at him.

If the rumors were true, and Chris had learned they always were, Kazuya had become a much better lawbreaker since they were kids.

“What do I owe the pleasure?” asked Kazuya smoothly. His voice dropping into a tone that was casual and...familiar. Usually, Chris would have rebuked him for it, but today was not a day for the usual.

Chris set his hat down on the counter. “Your best cigar, please.”

Kazuya looked surprised, but pleasantly so as he walked over to the case with the Cubans. He looked even more surprised when Chris took off his glen plaid patterned jacket, draping it carefully across the counter, before rolling up his sleeves past his elbows. It was all very shockingly informal.

“What’s the occasion?” asked Kazuya as he watched Chris lite the cigar.

Chris snuffed out the match on the ashtray that Kazuya pushed across the counter. “My retirement.”

“Oh?”

“Haven’t you heard?” asked Chris before took a puff. Tasting the smoke and fire on his tongue. “The 18th Amendment is being repealed.”

“You don’t say.” Kazuya smiled in a way that made Chris suspect he had already heard the news. “Sounds like you won’t have an excuse to come around anymore.”

“I don’t know about that,” murmured Chris in between puffs. “You’re not hiring by any chance?”

Kazuya quirked an eyebrow. “You want to work in a cigar shop?”

Chris felt his lips tip upward into a smile. “I always thought I’d make a good bartender.”

Kazuya threw back his head as he laughed. “This is a cause for celebration. You wait right here.”

Not that Chris has any intention to leave now that his interest was piqued. He smoked quietly by himself as Kazuya disappeared into the back room. He wasn’t gone long. Returning with two exquisitely cut glasses, one in each hand, and each containing--

“Mr. Miyuki, are you serving a Prohibition Agent whiskey?”

Chris couldn’t quite keep the amusement out of his voice as he accepted the glass and swirled it around in his hand.

“I won’t tell if you won’t tell, Agent Takigawa,” replied Kazuya as he lifted his own glass. “Cheers.”

Chris shook his head as he clinked their glasses against each other. “Cheers.”

I hope you can hear me screeching, this is amazeballs! I love that they're on the opposite sides of the law, I love how slick Miyuki is, and I can totally imagine Chris sliding in with that deep voice of his and his rolled-up sleeves. Thank you for this fill!
