Eita props his chin in his hand and watches tenderly as Akinori laughs along with something Satori has just said, glad to see his best man and husband getting along so well. He grins as the thought crosses his mind.
Husband
Vowing to support him, push him, inspire him, and, above all, love him, for better or worse, in sickness and health, for richer or poorer, as long as they both shall live. Every single one of those cliché wedding lines; they’d said them all to each other, teary eyed, somehow managing their way through their own written vows.
He can still hear Akinori’s ‘I do’ and feel his lips against his, sealing their promise of forever.
Someone drops into the chair next to him, and Eita only briefly glances over to see who it is before returning his gaze to his husband,
“This is so beautiful, Konoha-san, look at my baby, all grown up,” Eita rolls his eyes playfully at Komi’s teasing tone, unable to help the way his mouth quirks in amusement,
“I’m sorry for stealing him from you, Komi-san, I’ll be sure to take good care of him,” He says, watching fondly as Wakatoshi seats himself on Akinori’s other side, Satori leaning over Eita’s husband to say something to him, this gives Akinori a brief moment to look over and let their gazes meet, and Eita feels like he’s seventeen all over again, staring at the beautiful blond from the other side of the gymnasium. Komi’s voice brings him back to the present,
“You had better, I hope you haven’t forgotten that warning punch. I’ll be glad to remind you if you have,” Eita can’t help the slight wince at Akinori’s best man’s words, remembering with clear detail how Komi had punched him in the arm while Akinori wasn’t looking the first time he’d been introduced as his husband’s love interest. Their conversation is cut short when Washio picks up the microphone,
“Ladies, gentlemen and gentlefolk, if you could please turn towards the dance floor where I’d like to invite Konoha Eita and Semi Akinori to open the floor with a dance,”
Eita grins at his husband and gets up, meeting Akinori half way, kissing him briefly just as the upbeat song starts and Bruno Mars’ voice chimes in.
They’d chosen this song because his proposal hadn’t been conventional in any way or form. This wedding had been a long time coming.
They’d been on their third date, walking through the mall and window shopping when this very same song had come through the speakers. Akinori had laughed and told Eita that every time this song came up in a public space he half expected someone to get down on one knee and propose to their unsuspecting girlfriend.
To this day, Eita still isn’t sure quite what came over him, but doesn’t regret it one bit. He’d dragged Akinori to the nearest jewelers, picked out a pair simple white-gold bands turned to him and said “I think I wanna marry you” just as the song outside the shop had ended.
And here they are, eight years later, adoring smiles splitting their faces as Bruno Mars sings ‘Who cares baby, I think I wanna marry you,’
