I’m not even going to apologise at this point. Fluff. That’s it. That’s all this is.

Akinori is nervous. He’s been jittery all day, and he knows Eita has noticed, but his boyfriend is kind enough to not have pulled him up on it. Though he knows it’s only a matter of time.
Which is why he really needs to get his act together.
He’s been planning this for months, has everything rehearsed in his head, down to every breath and blink.
So why is it so hard to get the words out now? Maybe it’s not the right time, maybe he should wait? Is this really the right place? It’s not really that extravagant of a place, this park, but it is where they’d first met, when he’d sat and watched Eita paint. He makes himself pause and take a deep breath, choosing to ground himself by focusing on the fingers entwined in his own as he walks. He feels himself relax almost immediately, Eita’s strong presence always a steady shelter in the tempest of his thoughts.
He looks at his lover then, taking in his soft pale blond hair, the tips darker than they had been when they’d first met, sharp eyebrows and piercing hazel eyes as they take in their surroundings, he watches in awe as they turn to him, eyebrows arching up in bemusement, gaze turning tender. Akinori doesn’t think he’ll ever stop the feeling of wonder whenever this happens. Eita’s strong assertive personality giving way to something much softer when they’re together. Even his voice is tender when he addresses him,
“Button? You okay?”
Akinori still can’t quite believe how lucky he is to have this man in his life, let alone as his partner. He’s brought from his musings by a gentle hand on his cheek, which he automatically leans into, closing his eyes briefly to relish in the soft touch,
“Yeah, sorry,” he finally answers in a whisper, feeling lips against his briefly and relaxing all the way.
Yes, he can do this. His eyes flutter open, staring back into the soft hazel he wakes to every morning and goes to open his mouth, speech in mind.
And then his lover drops to one knee.
His world narrows down to the vision of Eita on one knee as he opens a small blue box, revealing a simple white-gold band.
Akinori feels a little faint, brings a hand to his mouth to try and keep the choked noise he makes from escaping as tears spring to his eyes and overflow onto his cheeks. Eita is starting to talk but Akinori falls to his knees in front of him and takes the hands holding the box into his, lowers them and stares at his lover. He takes his hands away to reach into his pocket as the other’s eyes widen in worry and uncertainty.
“Cupcake?” He asks, just as Akinori brings a red box to him, about the same size as the one Eita is holding, the latter’s eyes widening in shock as he looks from the box, to Akinori, back to the box again, “Aki- Is that?” Akinori can only give him a watery grin, opening the box to reveal a matching ring - at least at first glance. He takes in Eita’s awed features, managing to somehow croak out,
“I had it engraved. It says ‘to my light’,” Eita makes a small choking sound as his own tears fall. Akinori can count on one hand the number of times he’s seen Eita cry - this time made five,
“Yours says, ‘to my universe’,”
That’s it.
Akinori presses forward, almost toppling them both over if not for Eita’s quick reflexes as he catches him and wraps his arms around him, their lips meet and Akinori swears he sees stars all over again.
Words would never convey how much he loves this man, but perhaps, maybe, this small gesture will be enough for now, as they kiss to the soundtrack of applause from the few strangers around them.
“I’m guessing this is a yes then,” Eita lets out in the space between them when they finally separate minutes later, euphoric grin splitting his face as Akinori’s own reflects it
“Yes. If you say yes too,”
Maybe there is no ‘perfect time’ or ‘perfect place’ but, right here, right now? He feels like they’re pretty close.
