Since the moment Viktor met Yuuri, he had wanted to sleep in the same bed with him. Not in a creepy way, of course! He just wanted to get to the point in their personal relationship where Yuuri would be comfortable sharing a bed with him.

This wasn’t how he pictured it happening.

It all started when the two of them arrived at their designated hotel for a big international business conference that was going on there. Since they were business partners, despite living in different countries, they always attended all the conferences they were invited to go to, together.

So usually, when this happened, they got adjoining hotel rooms in order to stay close, but never actually sleep in the same room.

The conference they were currently at was a little different…

Instead of two adjoining rooms, like they booked, the hotel provided them with one single room that had a king size bed. The woman at the desk claimed they had no other rooms left so the two of them would have no choice but to share that one room, or get a different hotel. Of course, this one was already paid for by both of them, so they were both opposed to wanting to go elsewhere, which left them in the sticky situation of having to share a bed for the night.

Viktor had no problems with this, in fact, he was ecstatic about it. Maybe, just maybe, he would finally be able to get closer to Yuuri in a way that made him more than just his business partner. Or at least he hoped they could clarify whether or not there was really something between them, or if Viktor was just imagining there was.

The only problem was that Yuuri seemed so nervous about the whole thing. In fact, every time Viktor even said ‘stay in the same bed,’ Yuuri blushed furiously. And although it was the most adorable thing Viktor had ever seen, he couldn’t help but to think that Yuuri was tremendously uncomfortable, and that was the absolute last thing he wanted Yuuri to be.

So after they got to the hotel room and finished unpacking their suitcases in complete silence, Viktor decided it was time to speak up.
“Yuuri,” he started, turning to face his business partner who was currently staring out their window, “Do I make you uncomfortable?”

Yuuri’s whole body stiffened in response to the question, shocked by the abruptness of it. “Uncomfortable?” He asked quietly, looking for some sort of elaboration on the word.

Viktor nodded, taking a seat on the end of their bed. “Yes, uncomfortable. Like... do you not enjoy being around me? Do I make you want to run and hide?”

After a deep breath, Yuuri turned away from the window to look at Viktor. “No, of course not, Viktor, why do you ask?”

“It’s just… the way you reacted today when the lady at the counter said we would have to share a bed. I mean, I know it’s a little weird, but you sort of acted like I had rabies or something. Which, I’m like 99% sure, I do not. I did get bit by a chipmunk once like five years ago, but I would know by now if I had rabies, right?”

Yuuri couldn’t help but to laugh a little, shaking his head. “You don’t have rabies, Viktor. And… I’m not uncomfortable around you.” He slowly walked towards the bed, sitting down a foot or so away from Viktor.

“You’re not?” Viktor looked at him, eyes filled with a curiosity.

“I’m not. You might be one of the only people that doesn’t make me uncomfortable, Viktor.”

The corners of Viktor’s mouth turned up. “You mean that?”

Yuuri nodded. “Of course I do. Viktor, if you made me uncomfortable, I would’ve resigned as your business partner years ago.”

Viktor nearly lit up light a Christmas tree at the affirmation that he didn’t make Yuuri uncomfortable, but the question still remained as to why he was so averse to sharing a bed with him for three measly nights. Before Viktor could even open his mouth to ask, Yuuri decided to continue.

“The reason I didn’t want to share a bed with you is because…” He turned away, cheeks painted a light shade of red, “Well, I didn’t want you to embarrass myself in front of you. I was, and still am afraid that if we sleep in this bed together tonight, I’m going to do something stupid that I won’t be able to take back. And then you’re going to resign as my business partner, and then I’m going to be alone and I’m never going to see you again.”

“Yuuri, I would never!” Viktor assured him, scooting just a smidge closer to him on the bed.

Rubbing the back of his neck nervously, Yuuri shrugged. “A part of me knows that true, however I can’t help but think it’s going to happen anyways.”

“Nothing you could ever do would make me not want to be your business partner. You.. you’re amazing, Yuuri.”

For the first time this whole conversation, the two of them locked eyes. “Do you really mean that?”
“I would never lie to you, Yuuri.”

Yuuri smiled, bravely scooting a little closer to Viktor.

“Everything I’ve learned about you so far has amazed me, and I can only imagine everything I will learn in the future will amaze me and surprise me even more. And if you would give me the chance… I’d like to see all the sides of you I haven’t seen yet.” Viktor was taking a leap here, but hell, there was no time like the present, so why not?

He didn’t even consider for a second that if Yuuri didn’t feel the same way as him, the rest of their weekend might be totally awkward. He just needed to know, after years of not knowing, it was time to finally reveal the truth.

“Viktor Nikiforov, are you asking me out on a date?” Yuuri was probably being a little bold by using the word date, but what the hell, right? Viktor seemed to be cashing in all his chips, so why couldn’t he?

“I am if you want it to be one, Yuuri.”

Sucking in a breath, Yuuri moved even closer to Viktor, placing his hand gently on top of the one Viktor had resting on the bed. “I would love that, Viktor.”

A heart-shaped smile broke out on Viktor’s face and he could no longer help but to reach out and embrace Yuuri in a tight hug. And with no hesitation, Yuuri hugged him back.

Little did the two of them know, sharing a bed at one business conference would be the start of so much more.
