“Our first date was in Disneyland.”

“Nuh-huh. It was at the ice cream shop.”

“What? We weren’t even dating yet at that time!”

“You said It’s a date!, how does that not make it our first date?”

Tetsurô blushed.

“I wasn’t really being serious you know… Wait. Is that why you started acting weirdly affectionate?

“You’ll have to be more specific.”

“Like… kissing my cheek and holding my hand when we went places?”

Kenma looked at the sky.

“I can’t believe this.”

Then, looked down at his boyfriend.

“Are you serious? So for weeks you thought it was just me being weirdly affectionate??”

“Uh..”

He stared at the floor sheepishly.

“Well, yes? I mean, it did clue me in that maybe you were feeling the same and pushed me to really ask you out so it’s not like it was in vain.”

He met Kenma’s unamused eyes.

“Look, I’m sorry I was such an idiot. It was back when I was still being-”

“A coward?”

“-cautious.”

“So, if I got it right, you saying It’s a date!, was supposed to tell me that it wasn’t one?”

“I’ve had better thoughts, I know. But what can I say? You have the ability to turn off my brain with a simple flutter of your pretty lashes.”

It was Kenma’s turn to blush.

“Don’t try to distract me. Point is, you said that was a date. So it counts!”

Tetsurô sighed before looking back at his boyfriend with renewed fire.

“Why are we even arguing? And how does it still matter? We’re dating! We’re in love! We live together! I spent hours trying to convince you to take one day off just so I could drive you to this stupid place, get on one knee and propose marriage to you in front of all those random people and recite this stupid cheesy speech that got me indebted to Akaashi for life! So what if it turns out it’s not the place where we had our first date? Hell, we already were glued to each other so much that everyone, including our families, thought we were dating for years but trying to keep it a secret! And you know me, Kenma. I’m a huge romantic but try as I might, we’ve been toying with the line between being best friends and boyfriends for so long that it’s all a blur in my mind. Yeah, maybe Disneyland isn’t where we’ve had our first date. But I definitely remember this is where we had our first kiss. The first time I was sure for certain that we were not close platonic friends but boyfriends. So can you please tell me if you’re gonna marry me now, Kenma? I’d like to get up. I’m pretty sure my pants are ruined from all the friction with the concrete and my arms are getting tired from holding that box up.”

He waited for a beat before Kenma’s lips started turning upwards in a soft smile.

“Already tired? I thought my boyfriend was an athlete.”

“Former athlete. Come on, kitten.”

Kenma chuckled. He bent to be at eye level.

“Yes, Tetsu. I will marry you.”

He hurried on his feet to wrap his fiancé in his arms.

On his tiptoes, Kenma whispered in his ear as the crowd started clapping and cheering loudly.

“Just for the record. I also don’t care if that’s where we had our first date.”

He froze.

“What? Then what was that all for?”

“I realised we were being filmed and I needed our proposal video to go viral so I added a little drama.”

Tetsurô looked in awe at him.

“I never say no to free publicity.”

He kept staring at him until he couldn’t stop himself from laughing anymore.

The video went viral.
