FAQ

Our rules and guidelines are currently under construction as we refine the event for summer 2019! A lot of this information is still relevant, but please be sure to reread the guidelines once sign ups open and we've finalized any changes to the event!

FAQ

The answers to all your SportsFest-related questions!

What is SportsFest?

SportsFest is a multi-month event where teams work together to accumulate points by completing “big-bang”-like challenges and “kink meme”-like fills.

Who can participate?

Anyone over the age of 13 can participate. To keep SportsFest an inclusive and safe environment for everyone, please look over our Minor Policy.

The only requirements are that you have/create a Dreamwidth account! (It’s easy, and they’re free!)

We also encourage participants to create a Discord account, as we’ll be running a server for the event! (But it’s NOT REQUIRED).

Is it only for writers? Only for artists?

Nope! Anyone can participate! Any type of fanwork from coding projects to cosplay, from art to podfic, from music to fanfiction and beyond is encouraged! If you do something creative and fannish, you’re welcome to participate.

SportsFest is a great way to try something new or hone your skills!

When does SportsFest start? How long does it last?

SportsFest will run from June 10th until September 1st—a full 12 weeks!

For the full schedule of events, check out our schedule post.

How can I participate?

There are two ways to participate: A Competitive Team or Grandstand

A Competitive Team is a group of 4-8 people that participate for points. Each team is formed around a certain person, ship, group, or animanga on which they will base their Main Round entry on.

Grandstand is a non-competitive option just for fun. Team Grandstand has no upper limit for size and does not compete for points. This is perfect if you’re looking for a more relaxed, flexible SportsFest experience.

Who/What are Team Captains?

Every Competitive Team has a Team Captain. These are the team’s main point of contact for the mods and they usually take a leadership role in organizing the team. They will also be in charge of posting (or alerting the mods that another team member will be posting) their Main Round entries.

You do not need to have previous experience to be a Team Captain! If you’re passionate about your team, we encourage you take up the position!

If I’m on a competitive team, am I ONLY allowed to create content for the character/ship/group/animanga my team is based on?

Nope! For Bonus Rounds, you can prompt and create content for anything you want! That said, your Main Round entry should be focused on the character/ship/group/animanga your team picks.

Is [insert title here] a sports animanga?

Please check out our Nomination Guidelines.

Once nominations are over, we will compile a list of all the accepted animanga fandoms. There will also be a period during halftime in which you will be able to nominate additional sports animanga fandoms that were not nominated the first time!

How do I win?

Competitive Teams receive points for participating in several ways: filling out a team worksheet, prompting/filling Bonus Rounds, submitting an Main Round entry, commenting on Main Round entries, and posting recs and remixes. At the end of the event, teams who reach certain point thresholds will be awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. Any number of teams can win!

The exact point breakdown is a work in progress, but as soon as we figure it out, it will be posted here!

What are all these rounds?

A Main Round (MR) is a longer entry that will be centered around a certain theme and your character/ship/group/animanga. There are two Main Rounds over the course of the summer, each with a different theme.

Teams are encouraged to collaborate on Main Rounds and experiment with multiple creative skills, such as writing, art, coding, game creation, song writing, poetry, podficcing, etc. However, this is not required.

Grandstanders can also get together and make an MR as long as it meets the minimum MR requirements, is submitted on time, and is not centered around another team’s character/ship/group. (It can be on the same animanga as another team). If you’re on Grandstand and want to post a MR, please contact the Mods so we can get you posting permission!

Bonus Rounds are two weeks long and there are 4 of them throughout the event. Participants will prompt according to a certain theme, and fill other’s prompts. You can only fill prompts created by participants from other teams (aside from Team Grandstand, who may fill any prompt they like).

The Remix Round will run for the entire duration of the event. If a participant has given remix permission (either on a blanket permission list [coming soon] or on the individual BR fill) then the fill is up for remixing and can be posted in this round.

The Comment and Rec Round will be open for one week after each Main Round period. Participants are encouraged to comment on each other’s MR entries and rec each other’s BR fills in these rounds!

What about  this team worksheet you mentioned?

We’ll have more information on this closer to the event, but the team worksheet is for competitive teams to fill out to make sure that you’re all on the same page! We really want everyone to have an awesome event and that begins with giving you the tools to create awesome stuff with amazing teams!

Are you connected to SASO?

Many of the mods have previously participated in SASO, but none of us were connected in running the event. We reached out to the SASO mod team last year and asked if we could run a similar event since SASO was not returning this year.

This event would not have been possible without the foundation and support they have given us.
