“I want more. I want us to be more,” Miyuki stated bluntly.

The statement didn’t surprised Chris. They had been spiraling towards this moment for a whole eternity. Much longer, actually, than anyone suspected. What shocked him was that it happened now, when Chris’ life was soaked in chemicals without which he couldn’t sleep, couldn’t work, couldn’t exist, while he was so damaged that the doctors were considering adding more, because they worried about him. Why would Miyuki, ever the predator, approach him now?

Chris had long ago noticed Miyuki’s constant presence in his life, sometimes observing from the distance, sometimes coming closer, but always there. Chris had started paying attention merely out of curiosity, but over the time he grew accustomed to the presence. Still, after all those years, Miyuki approached him in a moment that made little sense: when Chris was entirely done, with everything and everyone; and everyone was done with Chris.

He was sure that accepting Miyuki’s confession could and would only lead to a bitter end. And yet… he, Takigawa Chris Yuu, who had always prided himself on his reasoning skills, on his discipline, his logic, he still couldn’t reject him. He might write out the positives and the negatives, apply logic or reason about it. Know that once Miyuki realized that Chris had no future, he would discard him, yet Chris still wanted him. Although saying yes was the most illogical thought, it was the only thing he could do.

Chris’s eyes flickered to Miyuki, and he looked to the side, but answered honestly: “I want that too.”

“I want you. Have always wanted you,” Miyuki admitted without shame, looking straight at him.

Miyuki constantly had his eyes on a prize, or a goal, never content, striving to go higher and become better. He strove for perfection. He was relentless and fearless. It wasn’t a surprise that he was the one to speak up, to reach for Chris and curl his calloused fingers around Chris’ softened hand. Looking at their intertwined fingers, Chris gulped. He knew what awaited him at the end of this journey, but still could only say yes. His decision would have been the same in the past and in the future as well; in any time and in any universe, if such a thing existed, whenever Kazuya asked him for it - Chris had lost this drive with more chemicals seeping into his system, but if Miyuki asked him to be go higher with him, Chris would follow.

He was powerless against Miyuki's steely resolve, pulled in like a star being overtaken by a supermassive black hole.

Saying yes, was the most illogical decision, but what if… this thing between them, what if it had a chance to survive after all?
