Chris Takigawa: It’s late. You should sleep.

Miyuki peeled his eyes open to read the message and snorted under his breath. Only Chris wouldn’t omit perfect grammar and punctuation in private messages even so late.

Miyuki Kazuya: :-P

He wrote back to annoy the other a little. He peeked at the numbers in the edge of the screen and fought back a groan. It was late and he should sleep.

A bed-cover rustled and somebody turned in their slumber. Miyuki squinted into the darkness of the room, temporarily blinded by the bright screen of his phone. It was probably Okumura. He hoped that the first-year wasn’t awake. It was one thing to be up himself, but he had responsibility towards the team. Not to mention that the coach wouldn’t be very understanding, if he found out about Miyuki’s late-night conversations.

The phone in his hand vibrated quietly, forcing his eyes open. He didn’t realize they had closed already.

Chris Takigawa: Go to sleep.

Miyuki Kazuya: No, if you don’t go…

Chris may preach all he wanted, but his life-style wasn’t any better. There was very little that Miyuki could to help though, since Miyuki was at Seido and Chris at his uni dorm.

Chris Takigawa: Still need to study. But that doesn’t mean you can’t go to sleep. You need to rest.

Miyuki could picture Chris’ stern face, but if Chris could make all the wrong choices, so could Miyuki.
Miyuki Kazuya: Pot…kettle.
Miyuki chuckled to himself as he sent the message. He could almost hear Chris rolling his eyes in down-town Tokyo.
Chris Takigawa: I don’t have to handle Sawamura. ;)

Trust Chris to hit the nail on the head. Sawamura was a handful. Or Zono. Or Wolfboy. Or Kuramochi. Or…the team. But admitting that would be the grist for the mill and Chris wouldn’t hesitate to use it.

Miyuki Kazuya: You have Sanada.
Chris Takigawa: He’s asleep. So far, I am safe :D

The well-meaning captain of Chris’ baseball team was just discovering the hidden dare-devil streak of their perspective catcher. Miyuki considered meeting Sanada to let him know that Chris was his problem, Sanada needn’t have to worry.

Chris Takigawa: He only turned. I thought I’ll get a heart-attack O.o
Miyuki Kazuya: Oooor instead of worrying you might go to sleep…

Not that Miyuki thought he’d succeed with pure logic, but it was still worth a shot.

Chris Takigawa: Yes, yes. Just need to finish some things.

Miyuki didn’t know what that meant. With Chris, anything was possible - from a short English assignment to a 20-page report. People usually supposed that high school was the hard part and university would an easy sail with some baseball on the side. Those people weren’t Chris.

Miyuki Kazuya: How about going to bed and getting up earlier? The best advice is found on the pillow.
Chris Takigawa: Usually, the best advice is from you, but not this time :P
Miyuki Kazuya: You’re not charming your way out of this, go to sleep.
Chris Takigawa: Worth a try.
You: When I come to your match, I’ll look for Sanada, so I can talk to him. Somebody needs to keep you in check.
Chris Takigawa: By the time you get here, I’ll be a regular. I think I’m safe.

Miyuki scowled at his phone. Chris had a point. Seido was keeping him busy, minimizing their contact. He had not seen Chris since his graduation, contending himself with messages and a few pictures, they had exchanged. It was an irony that keeping Seido doing well was also keeping him from seeing Chris. Bittersweet torture. He wished he could meet with him, at least for a moment.

Miyuki Kazuya: I miss you…

He stared at the message for a while, then deleted it without posting. No need to add to Chris’ burden. Chris was finally enjoying his life, fulfilling his own dreams that were put on the back-burner, instead of helping the others to do it. And he was looking great doing it; the occasional photos that included him were full of smiles. University life suited him. University baseball suited him even better.

Chris Takigawa: I’m nearly finished, you really can go to sleep. No need to wait for me.
Miyuki Kazuya: If it’s just a little longer, I’ll stick around.

Chris’ almost finished turned out longer than he expected, because when Miyuki woke up, it was dawn and his phone’s alarm clock was ringing into his ear. With a grunt he got his glasses tucked in the corner of the bed that had fallen off during the night. He had definitely fallen asleep, and the morning came way too early. He yawned, sleepily rubbing his eyes, while Kimura was already almost finished with dressing for the morning training. Okumura was preparing himself, throwing Miyuki an occasional stinky eye. Did Miyuki keep him up during the night? Or was it just the usual…something… Miyuki shrugged internally and with a groan reached for his phone to turn off the alarm. There was an unread message from Chris.

Chris Takigawa: Go to sleep, love.

Miyuki stared at it, warmth spreading in his chest.
“Senpai, the training starts in 10 minutes.”

He tore his eyes away from the screen to look at Okumura, who was standing by his bed and looking at him with a funny expression.

“Have you ever seen me coming late?” Miyuki told him off.

Okumura scowled. “Repeatedly,” he answered acidly and grabbing his gear, he followed Kimura, who already disappeared in the chill morning waiting for them behind the doors.

Getting on Okumura’s nerves was just too easy, Miyuki snickered. Although Okumura was right, he should get going, or he risked coming late again. He looked back at his phone. Chris would wake up soon too, with even less sleep and a lot on his plate, but Miyuki could improve the start of his day.

Miyuki Kazuya: Good morning, love. :)
