Adding scenes in the middle. I wanted to write some of the journal entries that helped Daichi and Asahi realize their feelings.

Day 1
Where would you like to live?
Daichi doesn’t spend a lot of time considering the first day’s prompt. Honestly he thinks the whole idea is silly. Sugawara pushed journals on him and Asahi insisting that they need to spend more time on self-reflection. It’s only because it’s Sugawara asking that he figures he’ll try for at least a few days.
After jotting down the vague answer that he would like to find a convenient location but also not horribly expensive he pauses, mind blank for anything else. He knows Sugawara wants a smaller apartment, but one that still feels light and airy. When he pictures it, the place Sugawara has talked about sounds pretty nice. Maybe he would like that too.
Day 2
How would you decorate your home?
Asahi has never thought of decorating as a thing one did on purpose. Anywhere he lives ends up cluttered because he’s too sentimental to get rid of things.
He remembers how Sugawara has said he’d like to set up his apartment to be comfortable. Sugawara isn’t interested in something pretentiously minimalist or fashionable. He’ll put utility and creature comforts over looks any day.
What Asahi finds himself writing about isn’t too different from the kind of place he imagines Suga would like. He mentally brings Sugawara into the picture with him, maybe curled up in one of those Papasan nest chairs he likes. The idea of living in the same home as Sugawara makes his throat go dry for reasons he can’t name.
Day 3
What kind of movies do you like? (You can't pick sports movies!)
Daichi isn't a fan of sports movies anyway (and they're almost never about volleyball.) He can't remember the last time he watched one.
It takes him a minute to remember the last time he bothered to go out to see a movie, period. Sugawara suggested seeing a slasher film for Valentines day, because they were all single and had no expectations of that changing. The movie itself was pretty standard. Asahi gripping his sleeve each time things got suspenseful was a lot more memorable.
Daichi thought he would like to do something like that again. Not scare the heck out of Asahi, preferably, but to go out with the two of them. He remembers Sugawara reaching across his back to poke playfully at Asahi and how the small action helped break him out of his distress. He has a sneaking suspicion the movie genre has little to do with how precious that memory is.
Day 4
Write about some of your favorite music.
When Asahi reads the question, what jumps into his mind is the music Daichi liked to listen to when their highschool team went anywhere. When they were in their second year he said he needed to have one ear open to keep tabs on their underclassmen and he got into a habit of sharing his other ear bud with Asahi.
Daichi likes a lot of instrumental and classical music, which Asahi has never figured out how to look up on his own. In a way that makes it more special, because it’s something Daichi shares with him. The music is irrevocably bound with the sensation of sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with Daichi.
It’s not that the habit ever died, but they haven’t gone on a trip or anything together in so long Asahi wonders if it would happen again now. He wants it to happen again. It feels like a cop-out to say he likes the music Daichi likes, but the feeling is so important to him he has to write it down.
Day 5
What foods do you like to make? What seasonal foods are your favorites?
Daichi has never been anything close to a picky eater. He likes most things. He likes seasonal foods because they’re seasonal. He loves the variety of things that change through the year. Even though Sugawara has teased him about ordering the same type of ramen every time he enjoys the variety of extra toppings and seasonings that come as each shop’s specialty.
Sugawara isn’t shy about requesting his favorite foods. Asahi isn’t vocal about it, but Daichi thinks his favorites are obvious to anyone who pays attention. (The two of them make sure to indulge him sometimes when they go out together, which isn’t often enough these days.) Rather than thinking about what he would like to make for himself, Daichi’s thoughts drift to recipes for Sugawara and Asahi’s favorite foods. He’s not a bad cook, and he’s confident he could learn to make their favorites. He wants to savor their faces when he gives them something he cooked himself.
I want to make something for both of you. I want to see you smile.
There’s a lot of empty space left in the journal entry, but Daichi can’t think of a single thing that needs saying beyond that.
Day 6
What job can you imagine yourself enjoying even when you have bad days?
Asahi has gotten this type of question countless times, and it always makes him nervous. There’s no job where he can’t imagine something going wrong at some point. Telling him he’s supposed to follow his heart and aim for a career he’ll love makes him uncomfortable, like there’s some secret everyone but him is in on.
It feels like Sugawara is patiently explaining that secret to him. He’s not supposed to pretend things won’t go wrong. He’s supposed to think of something he’ll enjoy enough to keep trying even when they do.
Asahi writes a few lines about photography and graphic design before his pencil scratches to a stop. He’s just grasping for ways to get in around the edges of what he really wants, because he’s sure that way it won’t hurt as much if something he creates is rejected.
He’s not interested in the art of a glossy magazine ad or billboard, but creating the subject. Once that clicks into place the words flow into a messy stream of consciousness. He wants to see someone wear something he could design. If he lets himself off on a flight of fancy he can imagine two very specific someones. Daichi is always so confident and cool while Sugawara feels welcoming and warm. They could have matching styles with inverted colors, opposites but always equal.
I want to make something for both of you. You’re beautiful when you smile.
Asahi looks down at the last line crammed in after the rest of his thoughts and swallows hard. He wonders if this is another way he’s been dancing around what he really wants, and this is Sugawara’s way of making him break through.
Day 7
Daichi isn’t surprised to hear from Asahi shortly before their usual call with Sugawara. There’s a frantic wail edging his voice when he says, “Daichi, help. Every time I write in that journal Suga gave me I can’t stop thinking about us. I don’t know what to say to him!”
After struggling with this himself, Daichi finds it extremely comforting to have to comfort Asahi about it. “I’m sure that’s why Suga gave them to us. Remember he told us we need to spend more time thinking about how we feel?” It’s just like him to make them realize their feelings for him rather than just explain it.
He’s a little embarrassed that Suga figured out his feelings before he did, but not enough to keep him from being grateful. They’ll talk to Suga about this and what to do next. It’s a conversation finds himself looking forward to.
