Letter from the SportsFest Head Mods

Congrats on making it to the end of SportsFest! The mod team is hard at work scoring remix round and preparing talkback. We (the head mods) wanted to take a moment to thank all of you, and talk about the future of the event.

There are so, so many people that made this event possible:

Our fellow mods, who helped plan, organize, and support us in creating and running SportsFest.

The previous SASO team, who let us create our own iteration of their event, and supported us in the transition between mod teams.

Icie ([personal profile] aicqt), who created the sign-up form, prompt/fill database, and the scoring program. We literally could not have run this event without their support.

Most of all, we want to thank all of you. We’ve consistently been blown away by your dedication, passion, and hard work over the course of the entire event. Your kindness and supportive attitudes helped foster a wonderful community atmosphere the last few months. You were patient with us when we ran into issues, and you constantly motivated us to make this event the best it could be. We are so incredibly proud of all of you and all of your accomplishments this summer (or winter, sorry Southern hemisphere peeps).

Even so, all good things must come to an end. As this event draws to a close, we have some important news to share.

It saddens us to announce that we (Zoe/SoVeryAverageMe and Ruby/Pugglemuggle) will be stepping down from the Head Mod positions after the conclusion of SportsFest 2018.

We want to reiterate that we’re both incredibly proud of what we accomplished over the course of SportsFest. This decision does not have to do with the event or any of you.

We’re both entering our senior year of university, and the honest truth is that we will not have time in the coming year to run the event in 2019. We want SportsFest to be the best it can be, and right now, we cannot commit the time necessary to run the event next year.

The Future of SportsFest

Over the last 10 months, we’ve been so, so incredibly grateful to be facilitators of this fantastic community of talented creators. We have spent countless hours to build and run this event, and we would hate to see SportsFest end after just one year.

If you want to help take over SportsFest, please, please comment on this post! We know that an event of this magnitude can be intimidating, but you will NOT be starting from scratch—all resources we’ve created and gathered over the last 10 months will be at your disposal. In addition, while prior mod experience is helpful, it is certainly not necessary. We took over this event with very little know-how to start with, so please don’t let inexperience be a deterrent if you want to see SportsFest (or a new iteration) next summer. We will be happy to support/mentor you in any way we can. We learned a lot from running this, and we would love to pass on our knowledge.

The only way that the event will continue is if people volunteer to run it!

By commenting on this post, you are not committing to run the event. This is merely a way to organize those who are interested in keeping this event going. You can also comment on this post to ask about the logistics of mod duties. We’d be happy to answer any questions you might have.

We’ve been delighted to get to know all of you over the last few months. Thank you all so much for participating! This has truly been a life-changing experience for both of us.

Please, please keep in touch!

Lots of love,

Zoe | SoVeryAverageMe

Ruby | Pugglemuggle

P.S. Keep an eye out for talkback, a feedback post for you to provide your suggestions for how this event can improve. We’ll be posting it soon!
